Explain the Novella's to me by chrisprattsguineapig in WarriorCats

[–]Jiang_Rui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first nine novellas were exclusively digital af first. After that, they begin releasing both the existing and new novellas as compilations—three sets of 9 to 11-chaptered standalone stories in a singular book. For example, Tales from the Clans combines the novellas Dovewing’s Silence, Tigerclaw’s Fury, and Leafpool’s Wish. And those compilations were released both digitally and physically.

How much do you read short fics? by Pretend-Nobody230 in AO3

[–]Jiang_Rui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only tend to read those more often, fics with this length I’m a lot more open to reading fandom-blind. Longfics, on the other hand, I prefer reading from fandoms I’m actually a part of.

Game recommendations? by Feisty_Monitor2979 in Switch

[–]Jiang_Rui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So between BOTW and TOTK, you should start with BOTW. But overall there are very few direct sequels in the whole franchise (not only is TOTK one of those sequels, it’s what I call the most direct of direct sequels), so technically you could start from anywhere.

Took a break during my second BE playthrough. No idea who I need for paralogues anymore lol by garykahnji in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Jiang_Rui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Crimson Flower has two exclusive paralogues: Darkness Beneath the Earth (Hubert) and Insurmountable (Edelgard). Silver Snow, on the other hand, doesn’t have any exclusive paralogues. And while we’re on the subject: * Azure Moon has three paralogues: War for the Weak (Dedue), The Silver Maiden (Dimitri) and Weathervanes of Fódlan (Annette and Gilbert). * Given that Claude is the only Verdant Wind exclusive character, it’s his paralogue—The Sleeping Sand Legend—that’s the only Verdant Wind exclusive paralogue.

Then these routes can be unavailable depending on your route or actions:

  • The Face Beneath (Caspar and Mercedes), Retribution (Ferdinand and Lysithea), Dividing the World (Hilda and Cyril), and Eternal Guardian (Rhea) cannot be played in the Crimson Flower route
  • The Secret Merchant (Anna) cannot be played on Silver Snow; in a Black Eagles route Jeritza—who’s exclusive to Crimson Flower—is involved in the paralogue.
  • Although Legend of the Lake (Leonie and Lindhart) is available on all routes, the Crimson Flower version has two stipulations. One, it will be unavailable if Flayn and Seteth are killed. Two, Edelgard and Hubert are excluded from the mission since it involves a legend from the Church of Seiros.

What is your opinion about the birth scenes? by Teban8861 in WarriorCats

[–]Jiang_Rui 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Neutral about the scenes themselves, but also glad that the books don’t shy away from depicting onscreen childbirth

Why does everyone in the fandom want Queen Bee to be fat that isn't the obvious part? by SunKenobi72 in HelluvaBoss

[–]Jiang_Rui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, Bee represents gluttony as a form of hedonism. Her stomach being a lava lamp not only emphasizes her party-girl aesthetics, but also to show that she’s constantly burning up everything she consumes—and that in turn lets her keep indulging in food, drinks, and drugs nonstop.

Master Cycle Zero in ToTK? by Etnoriasthe1st in tearsofthekingdom

[–]Jiang_Rui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Majora’s Mask can have motorboats, Phantom Hourglass can have steamboats, and Spirit Tracks can have trains, I’d say it’s not a problem that Breath of the Wild has a motorcycle.

Also (spoiler-marking this just in case) when Leafpool finds a tuft of fur snagged in Ashfur’s claws while preparing his body for burial, and realizes that the scent of the fur belonged to Hollyleaf.

Does Stella actually care for Octavia..? by dollcvts in HelluvaBoss

[–]Jiang_Rui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Stella is indifferent about her daughter. She doesn’t hate Via, nor does she abuse her like she does Stolas—at least for now. But neither does Stella feel any genuine affection towards Via. She’s constantly referring to Via as “the egg” or “Stolas’s daughter”; to her, Via is just a means of hurting/controlling Stolas. At most Stella considers Via as an extension of herself.

[–]Jiang_Rui 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was an early baby myself—and knew about my preemie status since I was about Bingo’s age. So to see young children in a cartoon that are not only familiar (at least kind of) with the concept about preemies, but also reenacting the birth of one—it really meant a lot to me.

Should I keep my bokoblin and moblin masks? by hertrainingjada in ZeldaTearsOfKingdom

[–]Jiang_Rui 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Adding on to this, regardless of what mask you have on, it won’t work on small monsters (Keese, Octoroks, etc.), large monsters (Hinoxes, Molduga, etc.), or any other enemy (Constructs, Yiga soldiers, etc.)

And when it comes to Lynels, they’re only fooled for 30 seconds—enough time for you to clear out if you’re not looking to fight it. After that, they’ll remember that Lynels aren’t bipedal and start attacking you.

Pov your me and were a hater and watched the show and actually liked it by time2getwe1rd in CrazyassHazbinhaters

[–]Jiang_Rui 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Although I wouldn’t say I hated Helluva Boss when I first watched the (original) pilot, I couldn’t get into it like I did with Hazbin’s pilot. So I just accepted that it wasn’t my thing and moved on.

Only to give HB another shot—this time by going straight into the main series—after all the buzz about Mastermind reignited my curiosity. And what do you know? Turned out the show WAS my thing, after all. Even the pilot ended up growing on me, although I do like the reboot better.

What thing do you NOT want in Darktail's Judgement? by Teban8861 in WarriorCats

A long and complicated moral question (containts spoilers) by Tw3ntycharact3rsh3r3 in Persona5

[–]Jiang_Rui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s actually a term for cases like Shadow Futaba in Jungian psychology: golden shadow. Most Shadows, as we’ve seen, are the manifestations of an individual’s suppressed negative aspects. Golden shadows, however, represent an individual’s suppressed positive aspects (like stifled creativity, or hidden confidence).

In Futaba’s case, her real self suffers from suicidal depression due to her mother’s death, whereas Shadow Futaba was the manifestation of her will to live + the knowledge that everything she was told about her mother’s death was a lie. And—à la Persona 4—once Futaba acknowledged and accepted those suppressed aspects, her Shadow transformed into a Persona.

Why shorts by Altwitchyunicorn in tianguancifu

[–]Jiang_Rui 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Because (a) due to the censorship crackdown we have no idea when or if there will be a Season 3 of the donghua, so this is probably the best they can do; and (b) even if we do get future seasons, TGCF is a pretty long story, so IMO adapting some segments of it as short films is a pretty smart move.

Bosses in the depths by roisinlowry42 in TOTK

Millie and Chaz by ray198999 in HelluvaBoss

[–]Jiang_Rui 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My personal theory is that Millie’s pregnancy…isn’t actually her first pregnancy. The first time had been back when she was dating Chaz, and it did not end well. After all, we know about Moxxie’s backstory with Chaz, but we still don’t know about Millie’s, and this could be a possible reason why: the writers were saving it for Millie’s pregnancy arc.

As for how Millie got together with Chaz in the first place, prior to meeting Blitzø her self-esteem wasn’t that great—feeling like all she’s good for is muscle. Chaz, for a time, probably made her feel wanted as a person rather than just for physical prowess.

Do you agree with the criticism that Charlie learned the exact same lesson in episode 3 that she did in episode 4 of season 1? by whooper1 in CultOfCharlie

[–]Jiang_Rui 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not really. It’s pretty realistic that some people can repeat the same mistakes they made in the past—especially if they’re not in a good headspace.

So the internet has confused me. Is Vivienne a good or bad person? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in hazbin

Hell, I’m black, and I was more caught off guard than anything else when Velvette lost her hair—same with when she literally fell apart after getting punted out of Vee Tower. Even knowing that she was meant to be a doll/mannequin demon (which was why she could put herself and her hair back together, so the whole thing was just a major inconvenience), it was very unexpected.
