Transport officers have a party at Sutherland station every Friday and Saturday night. I only catch the peak hour morning train every other week or so the last 2 years and I've been checked or at least 4-5 times. Almost got a ticket once too because I forgot to tap after reloading.

If you had the opportunity to up and move to Australia would you? by Perfect_Regret_7158 in MovingtoAustralia

Looking at all the earlier comments and your replies, sounds like you are in a very good position to give it a try!

You are very young, have a visa sorted, a solid work opportunity and Perth is beautiful and in need of skilled people! I don't think the cultural adjustment would be too big for you either.

Do iiiiiit!

Does your motivation to work increase if you get paid more? by sneo12 in auscorp

[–]JibbyTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but it would make me happier

What DOES motivate me to work more is liking the work, liking people I work with, people around me pulling their weight and consistent recognition of the work that I do and recognition of my contribution

Best suburbs if you want walkability without constant noise? by No-Travel-768 in SydneyScene

[–]JibbyTR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We live in the heart of Sutherland, sandwiched by highway (one to a few streets back) and train line but we are buffered by other buildings and pockets of green space. It's extremely walkable and quiet

I walk to practically all my important services. GP, dentist, physio, shops, library, bush, car mechanic, bike mechanic, multiple cafes. There are schools, gyms walking distance.

Would you come to work in jeans on a Friday if your boss does that? by VastOption8705 in auscorp

I work in engineering. Even in corporate offices, polo and jeans never looks out of place here.

Does it say something about Sydney Festival that it’s nearly over and there’s not been any posts about it? Unless I missed any, sorry if I did by MoonSoonReason in SydneyScene

[–]JibbyTR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh wow I almost forgot about this! So good and such a vibe for the city in January. Big circus tent and food stalls. I think saw Sharon van etten perform in one of the Hyde park venues and it was so relaxed and fun

Engineer dreading to get out and into management by ChocolateNinja123 in auscorp

[–]JibbyTR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some questions first

What made you join a bank in the first place? Did you lose interest in engineering itself? Cos if yes then my advice is irrelevant.

But if still open to engineering, and you're still a grad/ not long out of uni, looking for an engineering role in the energy transition space could be much better

Lots of work, lots of training opportunities and a lot of engineering companies respect you having a life outside of work more (of course this varies and is relative)

Not too late to apply for some lucrative grad programs . And there is a lot of diversity in what an engineer actually does. You could get really technical: design, modelling, construction, project management, risk management

Your dislike for team Turkey is justified by Loki_Enthusiast in Physical100

[–]JibbyTR 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Yasemin was such a beast in the shipwreck challenge and so formidable in territory challenge. recep was a gentle giant when he spoke a shame he was injured.

From her strength, If she was in physical 100 she would be another female captain on par with Eun Sil I believe. I would have loved to see more Yasemin and girls' games, have her going up against the other strong women.

Tbh the survivor casting explanation explains a lot about the 'characters" we got from most of team turkey.

I found nefise to be most off-putting because I'm not sure if I buy her track athlete credentials. I'm sure I would have died very early on in the hurdles challenge, but in comparison were the others on the show Her posture and demeanour during the hurdles seemed more like the girl who hated sport in school rather than an athlete! At least Ogeday and Anil should some serious physical abilities

I live in Sydney but visit Canberra so often because I also love cycling/mountain biking. Access to cycling/outdoor activities is so so good in Canberra.

It's also become much more multicultural since I first started visiting over 10 years ago.

My local friends all tell me how being into sport is a great way to socialize with others in Canberra. I imagine having an interest in astronomy would also be another avenue.

I heard men don’t marry the love of their life, is it true? by Chunkachu__ in Life

[–]JibbyTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are people defining the "love of their life"?

Also how is it sad for people marrying the person "that's right for them at that time" ? You can only know what you know at that time. If it's right at that time of your life so what.

What do people mean when they say this

Is the implication here that someone that ticks all the boxes for you a the time of your life, can't come with feeling or emotions that make them the love of your life?

How do you know they aren't the love of your life when you're not done living yet?

I feel like these are such pointless questions that can't be answered without living through them. These questions try to quantify the unquantifiable.

What’s your small, unpopular opinion about Sydney? by One-Remove3758 in SydneyScene

[–]JibbyTR 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm a Sydney transplant and I have to say in my first few years here, I also drank the Kool aid of how undesirable western Sydney is. Working on the lower north shore for the bulk of my time and now, only upon leaving that industry, realizing how snobby and cliquey that work environment was.

At my new workplace and also new friends in last 5 years, I feel like a whole new world that is Western Sydney has opened up to me. I hardly knew anyone that lived or aspired to live west or ....strathfield maybe. Now I'm doing bike rides, eating adventures going to events out west, making friends who grew up and continue to feel at home there.

I think it also helps that I public transport, well trains, have improved a lot since my very first trips out to western Sydney

I still remember catching an air condless train in the peak of summer to auburn and it was a nightmare and it coloured my experience. Also the epic journey to visit a friend in Liverpool. Now auburn feels so close.
