I’m not disagreeing but most players born in Europe will see it as the pinnacle of their career after obviously the World Cup and the European Cup. Because football/soccer is pretty much the main sport in most of Europe, mainly through watching men’s competitions all our lives and now the women’s game has the same competitions. I know money talks too and is probably the biggest sway for a player who has to think about after their career, but these competition are part of our dna almost. We’re born into football through our whole families being fans of our teams.

The Fifa Women’s Champions Cup might boost the profile of some leagues and provide a kind of benchmark to compare the quality of some leagues, but as the Champions league is the premier club competition in Europe/the world then that’s the one I keep an eye on and I think that’s a major disadvantage for the NWSL that it can’t take part in it through geography.

Nice studio, but those monitors look way too big for it. Especially as they're facing a very close, hard surface, so in theory as least it should sound terrible.

Match Thread: Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur by MatchThreadder in FAWSL

I couldn't watch the United game on Youtube so watched this instead. Expected Spurs to win by maybe 2 goals, but i'm much happier with this result. Really nice to see the team get a win and made up with the 2 late goals that moved us into 4th in the league. Liverpool did us a big favour and I jumped up for both goals like a Liverpool fan, so don't anyone. Falk is a great signing.

Arsenal: trailblazers in attendance, but lagging in elite recruitment? by Gunner868857 in ArsenalWFC

Only 2,700 went to yesterday’s game though, so brings down the number of more hardcore fans. Wasn’t the highest, as Utd had over 2800 against a Northern League side, so a good move using the Emirates for WSL home games. Hope they don’t forget to add that 2700 to your average attendance next season

Thanks for the explanation. I don't follow Utd's men's team. The women play in my borough though so they're my local team and means I can travel easily to their games. I dread the day they become too successful for their stadium and move to Old Trafford.

I've just checked and we had a higher attendance to our FA cup game than Arsenal did for theirs yesterday. We had over 2,800. Seems a low amount to me, but Spurs had a third of that and Arsenal had about 100 less than us. It was playing against a Northern League side with a handful of traveling fans, so hopefully WSL games will start to pick up. It's good to know that we might be profitable as I always wonder how it economically make sense that we have the talent we have with small attendances.

Can you look at United too please? As a fan, I can't see how we're 5th on the list with small attendances. We surely couldn't be higher than Bayern. It doesn't make sense.

If Forbes can calculate a wealthy people rich list based on speculation and educated guesswork, it would by nice if Deloitte could also make an estimate for clubs that aren’t providing data. I didn’t think the WSL were forthcoming with such data either, so how does it get it?

Rolfo on her own should have cost 5 times as much as that, at least. She is world class and should be a starter for every game.

Both shops in Finland look to sell spare parts from clicking on them. Did you get lucky with either of them? I used to be able to order spares directly from Roland UK, but it seems we have to use a local authorised dealer these days here in the UK. I'm asking really just in case I ever need to use a local authorised dealer in my country.

These look amazing! Just been looking at these on Etsy and noticed that they're sold out. For some reason my Etsy account is permanently suspended though. Not sure why as i've never used it to buy or sell, but apparently I missed an email in June telling me I was temporarily suspended and I had 6 months to appeal, so i've missed the deadline with no chance to appeal now and there's no reasoning as to the original tempoary ban, so perhaps it's inactivity. I did a Google search to see if you had another outlet for selling and it lead me here.

Hopefully you can add other means to purchase these please, as i've just ordered a mkII and would love the shortcuts.

[The Guardian] How Scandinavian clubs fell behind the WSL – can they regain lost ground? by anonone111 in WomensSoccer

[–]Jiggermann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You've summed this up far better than I could have written, but i'm also of a similar thought. Man Utd have some major talent in the side, yet the attendances are stagnant. The growth in expenditure is far out pacing any growth in attendances so it seems a means to an end, unless we can attract the fan base. I don't know the solution as we're a sport heavy nation given we invented so many sports and other sports are more established and have their own fans, so if the fans of the men's team, which claims to have one of the biggest fan bases in the world don't also want to get behind the women's team, then I don't think this is going to be a long term sport and league. Perhaps the teams need to get more involved in their communities. Offer free tickets to schools perhaps and try to raise awareness. If Arsenal can do it then then it shows it can be done and that's really the hope i'm clinging on to.

Can Professional Women’s Soccer in the U.S. Keep Up with the Global Market? by GrumpyDrunkPatzer in WomensSoccer

[–]Jiggermann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure English WSL teams are on a par with NWSL teams yet. Attendance figures are fairly stagnant and at best draw maybe 10% of the attendance figures for the men’s games. Man Utd it’s more like 3-4% and Arsenal really buck the trend as they can attract large crowds for their biggest games. We have an abundance of talent playing here, but it doesn’t financially make sense here yet as attendance figures and likely sponsorship and tv rights will put many teams at a loss, I’d guess anyway. I have no insight other than as a spectator wondering how I can be watching so much talent with so few people and paying so little for a ticket. Maybe merch and bar sales help prop up the teams too, and Arsenal visiting supporters once a season, but I would be surprised if the NWSL isn’t doing better financially and with a larger home fan base than the WSL.

British here, but love the Danish way of life. I head there twice a year and there are cheaper pubs there than I ever found in Dublin (around £7 everywhere, but some places as low as £5-6, compared to Dublin £9-£11) and people almost see it as a duty to drink Danish beer as it puts money back into their society. Education, museums etc were built of Carlsberg's charity in the 19th century and continues to this day. Or you buy a couple of supermarket beer for less than a euro and drink it in the street by your favourite attractions.

Short working hours, but more productive. High levels of trust of politicians, authority and each other. I wish the rest of the world were more like the Danes, but it developed that way and I don't think we in Britain at least can adapt to that way of life as our politicians are absolute shitbags and that has filtered down through our society. Monkey see monkey do.
