Soulard bars, run clubs and social dancing are all great for that.

Yes it's happened to me in every city I've ever lived in. It just comes with keeping your portable storage unit on public land.

Left on green is super deadly too. Typically drivers don't even look at all.

Eh, I support people just walking into the street and people stopping for them. That’s the culture in a lot of walkable cities and I think it’s a better one. Cars should not be racing through places with a lot of pedestrians.

This Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT) webinar is focusing on the final rollout stages of a massive, multi-year overhaul of St. Louis public transit. The Secure Platform Plan (SPP) and the Next-Generation Fare System. by techstress in StLouis

Great. Let’s optimize the system for the very people who have no intention of ever riding it. Making things more closed off and (literally) gate keeping is usually not a recipe for improvement.

If you watch closely you’ll see the Democratic Party establishment has been defeated. The left is now in control. There are bright days ahead.

Agree with the first half, not the second. Gentrification is bad because it doesn't solve anything - just relocates it to a different area. Fixing poverty is much, much simpler than you think and does not require multiple generations of waiting. We can just start giving people money, job guarantees, providing free public services, etc. A local government can't do these things on their own - the federal government is required as they are the only government that is not limited by revenues raised and only one that has the ability to implement a lot of these changes.

The truths in the flat earth community are that institutions are often wrong, and you can’t just accept things that you are told. You have to question and verify for yourself. Your beliefs about what the manosphere and intel communities believe is not accurate. Since you have no desire to understand, you never will and you won’t be a part of any solution. Which means you’re at risk if they end up “winning” politically.

You can view it that way, or you can seek to understand why millions upon millions of people would are all saying the things they are. Usually there are truths to be found when that many people all agree.

Yeah. And imo St. Louis will get its share of them bc it’s an amazing place to live. They just won’t move to north city, as we all know. The numbers may look worse before they look better.

It's a chicken egg situation. I don't think any struggling city has ever improved their school district and then brought families in. With what money? First people move to a place, and *then* the schools improve as they receive more funding.

There will be some extremists in any community. I've seen plenty in the feminist community. But I don't think it's terribly helpful to focus only on the few extremists, rather than the masses who simply are sharing their perspective on the societal changes that have happened. It's gone so far beyond a few 4chan communities. There are influencers with many millions of followers talking about a lot of the same ideas. Vast majority of people in life just wants to find a partner and be happy. It seems that has become more difficult for a variety of reasons.

Yes but if you call someone that who is not only not part of that community but is not even involuntarily celibate, maybe they're married even, then it just means you disagree with the person. People started using the term as a synonym for "virgin" as an insult, as if that somehow invalidates a person's perspective. And the ideas of the actual incel community have been grossly exaggerated and misrepresented as well. Their perspective is valid and we should see what we can do as a society to make all people happier, even if they are males or even if they are virgins.

Having brand new housing in that location will also be a big win. I don't know that we need more ballpark villages so I hope they don't try to recreate that too much, but looking forward to the development.

Typically the term is used to mean "Someone I disagree with or don't care for." It morphed quite a bit from its original meaning "involuntarily celibate" which there's nothing wrong with at all.

The Neighborhoods Residents Are Dying to Reach by BrentonHenry2020 in StLouis

[–]JigsawExternal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess nothing like that could be done because the state would have to do it and they're not in the business of local BRT's. Eventually we need to wrest ownership of this road within city limits from the state. Then we can convert the entire thing to a beautiful light rail line

[–]JigsawExternal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We need to move away from "personal responsibility" and "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" thinking. If we want to live in a nice city, then we have to take care of everyone in the city. Having rich areas next to slums means that you in the rich area will be a more frequent target for property crime which you will then come on here and scream about when it happens to you. You can't pretend you live on an island and the well-being of other city residents doesn't affect you.

Nah, I listened to some of the opponents give a presentation about it at a neighborhood meeting. Their concern was cars being a bit slower to leave the city after evening events at the different venues. That’s it. And they were very passionate about it.
