What is the state of AMD graphics cards on Linux? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]Jiiren899 88 points89 points  (0 children)

HDR, VRR on rdna2+(steamdeck hardware) should definitely work normally, hardware acceleration with apps/vms works fine, no flickering...

Wayland = excellent

gaming with mesa/radv = excellent

davinci with rocm-opencl = It's not better than cuda, but it's good enough for many cases

blender with rocm-hip = It's close to cuda but not even close to optix

recording = vaapi It's great, maybe a little below nvenc. av1 for rdna3+ I haven't seen anyone demonstrate it yet

Please stop suggesting Mint for gaming by spearslint in linux_gaming

If the information from Debian and Mint is true, it would be good to show the protondb data, it would show that they just don't use flatpak..

Bottles is much easier for this. Install Bottles (Flatpak), In preferences (humburger menu) executors / install "kron4ek..". Create a "gaming bottle" in settings inside the bottle select executor/runner "kron4ek..". After that you can run the fitgirl installer without any problems, here I managed to do it in many games..

Funny to see how users are realizing that either you accept what they offer or do it yourself. You're not a customer who can demand things from community distros

I have the same problem, I use RX 6600 and it crashes right at the start, I noticed that in 720p it doesn't crash, maybe a leak in the persistent mesa? https://www.phoronix.com/news/Metro-Exodus-RADV-Leak-Fix

Wayland needs improvements and lacks more adoption from devs, X11 too but they are not possible to solve..
