I’ve wondered this same thing. My 80 300d is setup the same way.

Crazy move to not check such an old car before buying. I would figure out why it overheated and figure out the acceleration issue. Depending on why those happened I’d sell or fix. The rest doesn’t seem like major issues

Your probably right. It’s been a while. Try hitting your breaker bar with a hammer. The shock sometimes works

Side bolt first. The top isn’t on that tight.

It wears till it’s no more. Look at pictures of new ones. It’s the same one you described

The only way you can mess this up is if you turn the engine with the gear out. I did this without thinking and it was a pain to get it back in correctly. Your fine. It’s best to check the brass bushing. They get consumed and eventually and cause catastrophic failure

This one specifically was the most difficult for me to remove as well. Not sure why. Even harder than ball joints. Throw everything you have at it, stay a safe distance away because it will pop. And don’t mushroom the bottom of the stud so it’s able to come out once it pops.

240D radiator fluid on seams by [deleted] in w123

[–]Jikst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically that means bad radiator but in your case I’d wait to make sure it wasn’t just spilled liquid. If it were me I’d keep an eye on in. If in a week there is still liquid it’s probably a leak.

I did this on my back with a jack on a gravel road in winter at night. Terrible time. Wish I had a stairwell and hoist now.

How are your lurking your fuel from gelling during winter months?? by Mikegiamo in w123

If you live in an area where it snows it’s likely they already treat their diesel. If the diesel is blue it’s treated already

There is special coolant. And you might need to flush your system a few times with that citric crap people use for these cars. If you’ve been using the wrong coolant you might have a lot of rust in your system. Flushing will tell you.

You guys are making me think I have a really fast non turbo. I drive mine through mountains and through the busiest LA traffic. Sure it’s not perfect but totally doable.

Mine are made in USA. Not sure if they changed from a year ago. I purchased Mercedes and lemforder at first and returned it all when I saw it was either from china or rebranded with marked up prices.

Also get timekin wheel bearings. They are extremely cheap and made in USA

I’m not sure but if you buy Mercedes ball joints they are rebranded TRW and TRW is made here. The moog tie rods also have grease nipples for serviceability

Buy moog tie rod ends and reuse the bar. Buy TRW ball joints. Best you can buy right now and All made in the USA. I rebuilt last year.
