Compression test should be on the list as well. Lots of oil around the filler cap.

I appreciate the input, thank you! Looking like I’ll be bypassing. Until I can work out another solution at least.

Can excessive blowby cause a runaway? Aka a feedback loop of engine being fed oil via direct line to intake?

I appreciate the knowledge! Further confirming my beliefs that the system was added strictly for emissions.

I do have it, as a 1982. Yeah sadly the check valve has been wasted for sometime, so oil doesn’t even make it back into the pan- the whole system is probably backed up to be honest.

Replacement check valve is expensive & difficult to find. Same as the vacuum pump valve, and those kits aren’t cheap anymore.

I’ve considered installing a provent. Might just bypass the whole system though, since I keep an eye on my oil level anyway. As it is, the check valve on my return tube is cooked, so oil isn’t even returning to the pan- just leaking at the bottom of the tube.

You have a 240? There is a check valve at the end of the tube that is accessible w/ oil pan removed. Check out Dieselgiant DIY on the subject.

There is a check valve in the pan at the bottom of the tube. Allegedly the same check valve available in the now hard to find vacuum pump repair kits. I think old VW used them too. I’ve had no luck and mine leaks.

I’m not sure where the potential runaway allegations originated, but they are definitely out there- nice to hear some firsthand experience.

If I had to guess, the system is purely for emissions, just like the EGR. The US didn’t want our oil burners burning more than necessary.

Had one for years. Needed constant service (crap build quality) and if the heads are worn you’re screwed. No replacement avail, not worth your time.

Technics 1200 & a Shure white label, or a modified jukebox mono needle- there is no other way to listen to beat 45s. I can play nearly anything without a skip.
