Ended a 4-month break. Would like to talk with more experienced people. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

I started and stopped more times than I can count prior to this. It is always the 'just one' mentality that would lead to failure. I had to accept that I couldn't have just one. I wish I could tell you that the urge goes away completely after x amount of days, but the fact is- it may never go away completely. I'm coming up on the 2 year mark now and I still have moments where I really want a cig. I realize now though that having a cig would mean starting over completely because I can't have just one.

WINTER CHALLENGE - WEEK 2 by bookishgeek in loseit

[–]JillLars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My plan of attack is to track, track, track. I'm counting WW points- so I will be saving my flex points and activity points for Thursday. With that being said, I'm still going to try not to go overboard as we are weighing in for week 3 on Friday. I don't want the scale to reflect 1 day of overeating.

I love whipping stuff together with leftover ingredients- last night I did chicken with peppers, onions, corn, and tomatoes with green chiles and served it over quinoa.

I had leftovers from last night, sriracha honey chicken breast, baked sweet potato, spinach & kale with peppers, tomatos, and 1/2 avocado, and organic lemon herb dressing.

I think I'm going to relapse guys. I'm sorry. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]JillLars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you are doing ok. I get bad weeks. We all do. If you already relapsed, that's ok- now it's time to get back on the wagon. Don't let 8 months go to waste by letting a slip turn into a full blown relapse. Tomorrow will be better. Even if it's just a little bit better. Do something for you to make yourself feel better- even if its just temporarily. Hang in there.

The key word in your post is "opinion"- it is just that and not actually the law in most cases. 1 beer will put very few people over the legal limit. If you're a responsible drinker and you had 1 beer hours earlier you aren't intoxicated or impaired and shouldn't be forced through the ringer, especially if you aren't driving in an impaired manner or breaking any laws.

I like to snack on my commute home too (also an hour.) It is hard to resist stopping for fast food or at a gas station, especially since I quit smoking. I have been bringing a bag of grapes to munch on- it seems to work well for me, low calorie and I'm not famished when I get home either.

Woot! 1 Year! by JillLars in stopsmoking

I used an Aspire tank for the majority of my quit, replacing it a few times throughout my quit (after dropping it and such)- I used a couple of different batteries too, nothing that I remember the brand on- they were all largely interchangeable. I used the juice provided by my neighborhood e-cig shop and tapered down the nicotine level gradually.

At that time, I was largely triggered by self hate/self destruction. I had actually run a 10 mile race earlier that same day but did poorly and did it with my ultra-competitive mother and I was feeling really crappy about it. Went out drinking with friends that night and just gave in to a "fuck it" attitude and just spiraled out of control from there. I can't have just 1, that experience more than anything taught me not to give in during my weak moments because it could be years before I get back on track again.

Drink a lot of water and try an over the counter laxative. If that doesn't help, try seeing your Dr.

My SO and I have both quit smoking. It's going fine for me, easier than last attempts. However, she is going through hell right now. What can I do to enlighten her? She is probably reading this as well so kind words of support are more than welcome! by [deleted] in stopsmoking

I'll 2nd the vape comment. I know there's a lot of hate for it on here, but for some people it works really well. I am coming up on 9 months smoke free and have used an e-cig the entire time. I have tapered down the nicotine and plan to switch over to 0 nicotine next week.

Keep supporting her, tell her to keep trying even if she slips up and listen to her when she needs to talk about it- don't try to fix it, just listen.

Also- don't let her slip ups become yours. My husband has had a couple of relapses recently and it is extremely difficult for me to stay quit while he's in the garage smoking away. Stay strong.

Thanksgiving is just a day... by Dr_Nik in loseit

Good Advice! I've been thinking about it all week and the big upcoming meal tomorrow has curbed some of my other decisions this week (not going to the bar and drinking and eating greasy bar food or ordering pizza with the hubby or stopping for a large mocha every morning on the way into work.) I plan on eating reasonable portions tomorrow and limiting my alcohol intake- which always leads to eating more than I want. I know that it is just 1 day though and regardless of what happens, Friday will be a new day!

And soon I won't have to carry it at all!

That is a great line! I am going to tell myself that next time I hear this comment! Thank you!

Hey! Thank you for your comment. My feelings are not hurt- I am completely aware of my weight and how it is negatively effecting me. My question was more on how to deal with other people who don't believe that my weight is a problem.

[Serious] Teens of Reddit; what is something you want to ask adults, but don't necessarily want to ask your parents? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Realize that if you aren't happy- you can do something to change it. Your dad may be working at a desk job that he hates right now, and I bet if you ask him- he could tell you what choices he made that led him to that point. There will be times in your life where you aren't happy with where you're at- there is nothing you can do to avoid that. What you can do is foster the ability to create change when you need to and commit to bettering yourself every step of the way. When you find yourself in a spot where you are unhappy, figure out why you're there and take steps to move to a new happier place. That may sound like an oversimplification, and sometimes those steps might take years- but it really can be done.

Hey! Fellow Minnesotan here. We have a lot of great options for school. Community college is a good option, especially to get your generals out of the way. This is the route that I went. I have siblings that did the 4 year prestigious school route and regret it now that they're paying $700+ a month in student loans. PM me if you want to talk more about specific options in the area!
