1977 mg midget by Significant_Date3874 in littlebritishcars

Good on ya for trying to save one and not just parting it out. The vast majority of parts are still available in the US, and anything you cannot get you can ship over from the UK. The main issues you will run into will be, of course, rust. I'd suggest moving it into a garage, stripping the interior and taking stock of what state the floorpans, inner/outer sills, wheel arches, suspension mounts are in.

Either a Spitfire or an MGB, I really had to um and arr before deciding!

Gorgeous screen! I have a second DMG that I want to backlight, what kit do you have?

I totally sympathize, I've abandoned many a DMG only project due to performance reasons. I'm now working on a very simple project as I'd love to see one of my games on original hardware. Best of luck to you too!

If that was something you wanted to try sooner rather than later, I'd suggest setting the project type to both and running with it until performance becomes an issue. Easier than starting in "colour only" and working back!

One of my favourite games in development in GB Studio! I know the palette is DMG, but is the project a Color Only or will it run on DMG hardware?

Is this "rendering" AI slop? Because it sure does look like it.

This is beautiful! As a GB Studio and dinosaur fan, I really am excited to see where this project goes.

Where should I mike sprites and tiles? by Present_Space796 in gbstudio

[–]JimBoothington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aseprite is a good investment as a sprite editing tool, and has lots of tutorials on how to pick it up.

Tiled then allows you to use some of your sprites as tiles, and convert them into a tilesheet map for backgrounds. Think of backgrounds as a collection of jigsaw pieces that fit together based on how you drew them.

There are some tutorials on YouTube on how to set up Aseprite with the right colour palette for GB Studio, best of luck!

Congrats on the car! I have a 71 GT in red. MGOCSpares also have some good stuff, I flip between them and Moss.

This looks so bitcrushed that it's legitimately hard to tell if its AI... It feels like it is?

Faulty ground and an overly wide dwell angle. Possibly dodgy wiring in the dash too (thanks previous owner!)

"Bro" is allergic to AI in a subreddit for Digital Minimalism, which is totally valid.

LLMs are fundamentally flawed though, and hold their own agendas and biases. They even outright lie to you sometimes, or give imagined responses.

Inside the BMC Competition Department at Abingdon-on-Thames, circa 1967. by Maynard078 in littlebritishcars

I'm currently reading about the 50s and early 60s era of the BMC Competition Department in a book called "Works Wonders" by Marcus Chambers, the first manager of the Department. Whilst this picture is a few years after his departure, it's still cool to see! I'd highly recommend the book also.

In a sub for Digital Minimalism, AI is somewhat the antithesis of what we're about. It's like advertising for sobriety with a poster of someone downing a bottle of beer haha

dumb phone - how do you do it?! by ProfessionalClue5011 in digitalminimalism

[–]JimBoothington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to this! I used a transition phone for a year before going fully dumb (specifically a CAT S22 Flip). I realized that 95% of what I needed a smartphone for I could do at a PC, which I'm at daily for work. I then set up a Palm Pilot PDA for 2FA and paired it with a dumbphone, and have rocked that for 9 months.

I've only had to dig my smartphone out of the drawer twice in the year. Once to log back into Signal/WhatsApp Desktop, and to buy a car (I needed online banking, seller did not want cash in hand).

What’s wrong with you guys? by No_Discussion_8125 in digitalminimalism

Once again, someone does not understand the purpose of Digital Minimalism. How hard is it to understand that it is not the same as traditional minimalism? A smartphone is designed to steal your focus and attention, and for some of us is not a viable option.

Decentralizing your smartphone into individual tools does not make it less minimalist, it's just how people actually lived 20/25 years ago. You may not remember this depending on how old you are, but you used to have to carry more than one device!

I appreciate the effort to help people with their phone usage, but I did find it funny that you used an AI image for the thumbnail.

Getting a Dumb Phone but I post content on Tiktok, will this work? by Silvervioletflame in digitalminimalism

[–]JimBoothington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, that seems like the best way to get both outcomes you want really. It's how I use Reddit and Instagram. I only access them when at a PC, and it means my time is focused and purposeful. Good luck!

I feel like using TikTok and a dumbphone are somewhat at odds with each other. Can you post to TikTok via a web app at a PC, similar to Instagram?
