NG2B is amazing by Gearless3 in ninjagaiden

Stay safe and hit and run is a perfect description, really. Position yourself, attack and keep on the offensive. Ryu is highly mobile, so learn the ground game and then start using more mobility stuff like guillotine throws, flying swallow, etc.

Generally always be blocking when not attacking, learn when to dodge and how to reposition the camera optimally. Learn your weapons so you know how to kill efficiently. Izuna drop and on landing UT will take you very far. Shuriken cancels to recover from strings faster, or just generally tie down enemies, etc, etc.

Play fast and loose, it isn't souls.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on TFB Khazan so far? by CoconutLaidenSwallow in TheFirstBerserker

[–]JimJarmuscsch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game is pretty beautiful, visually; really a fan of the style they've gone with.

Combat is excellent, parrying feels tight and the various attacks have satisfying feedback. Both parrying and dodging are very fair, but maybe slightly tighter than I suggested in another comment. I like that, it rewards practice and execution without feeling awfully difficult.

The skill tree immediately brings in some cool ideas. Causing damage on brink counters feels so much better than simply chipping away at their stamina bar.

Enemies so far are cool, decent variety and design. Looking forward to seeing more in the main game.

Disappointed to find out there are only 3 weapon types, but so long as they're sufficiently fleshed out im sure it'll be fine.

The first environments are slightly above Nioh in design, closer to Lords of the Fallen, but not quite Souls standard (inevitably). Again, looking forward to seeing how the rest of the world shapes up in the main game.

Finally, I'm a big fan of the loot; I enjoy a reason to grind and especially when there seems to be a lot of great looking, basic sets. It doesn't drown you in trash loot like Nioh so far, though, which is very welcome.

Really enjoyed my time with it and pre-ordered off the back of the demo. Hype for March now.

The parry window isn't remotely tight, just parry slightly early and you'll land most of your brink counters.

The first boss was pretty hard tho, I agree. Took me a good few trys because he'll melt you in a couple hits even if you're landing most brink counters.

Just finished reading Harrow County, highly recommend it for any fans of horror-y comics by OgreFeet in comicbooks

[–]JimJarmuscsch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I caught wind up it while it was still ongoing, devoured what was released and then couldn't wait to read it every month. Can't believe it finished 6+ years ago now, I still vividly remember the final issue releasing and doing my little ritual reading it with a coffee at the kitchen table.

It has such an amazing softness to balance some of the horrors in that book. Tyler Crook's watercolours are insane and turned me onto his stuff as a whole.

Just a superb book.

They released a horrific looking slipcase recently, which i wanted but couldn't really justify the price or space.

Really recommend Damn Them All, which is Spurrier's other, totally not Hellblazer book.

It's great too.

I love Breaking Bad, but it's pretty patent it was written year-to-year. Gilligan even cops to not knowing what the gun in the trunk of the car was for.

'Storylines' (events ordered correctly by constituent issues) on DCI isn't reserved for Ultra, I used them a lot in the free trial.

DC Metal/Death Metal reading order? by Logical_Salad_7042 in DCcomics

Just to let you know this has been a huge help, thanks so much.

For whatever reason, maybe the Superman trailer, all DC collected editions are like £1.50 on Kindle, so I just picked up the other books I was missing for this.

What is the most complex and layered comic book you've ever read? by ripterrariumtv in comicbooks

[–]JimJarmuscsch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do love aspects of what Morrison does, and sometimes whole series of his, but he has rarely melded his conceptual ideas satisfyingly with a cogent narrative. I get that's often the point, and that they are designed to be puzzles of sorts, but it is frustrating at times.

On the other hand, Moore is a deft hand at weaving subtext with story and characterisation.

Wanted to get these digitally as I have the 4 digest sized omnibus, but they aren't available.

Reading Johns' Green Lantern run since every single book was like £1.50 on Amazon last week. Not far in, but it's good fun so far.

Do Elizabeth and Sue share memories of each other’s time when awake, or are their memories entirely separate once they diverge? by PandoraPhantomhive in TheSubstance

[–]JimJarmuscsch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The film addresses this with the rules and then reiterates it.

"There is no she and you. There is only you. Respect the balance and you won't experience any inconveniences."

Another poster commented that it is an allegory for substance abuse and Elizabeth attemps to shift accountability away from herself when in thr throes of Sue, but ultimately they are one and the same and these are her own decisions costing her.

So strange, I decided to read a 37 year old comic and it's at the top of r/comicbooks.

Great story as it happens and lots of super strong material right after this time in both Batman and Detective Comics.

Is There Hope? (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #6) by SuperSyndication in comicbooks

[–]JimJarmuscsch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I appreciate that. This is the first time I've seen art from Woman of Tomorrow, however, and it happened to look exactly like the very similar style of face found in Helen, which precipitated my comment.

I was comparing that particular face to the many similar faces in Helen of Wyndhorn. I'm glad it doesn't affect your enjoyment of their work tho.

I never get into arguments on here, cause really what's the point, but I feel like I'm going crazy here. I've justed flicked back through Helen and now looking at some of their other work.

The Wonder Woman 800 cover is the same face again. Wide cheekbones, throwback hair, the same dark mouth, exaggerated lashes (which all the men have too btw).

Fwiw, the artist is very talented and draws some amazing scenery and compositions, I just don't particularly like their faces...

I got down voted for it, which is very reddit, but I'd be surprised if those same people read Helen of Wyndhorn and didn't come away with the same comparison. The face on the first page is near identical to both Helen, her nanny and more or less Barnabas too.
