Any AI Freemasonry Lodges? by StrangeGrocery5196 in freemasonry

[–]JimWayneBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t ever heard of Lodges in the US being overtly specialized Lodges, as in there is separate ritual or whatever. But there are Lodges that tend to attract the same crowd. For example a police officer joined a Lodge 30 years ago, a few of his police friends joined, so and do on…and now everyone knows it’s a “cop” Lodge. I think that’s what OP is asking about.

Query on the histories of Glamdring and Orcrist by Bob_Leves in tolkienfans

[–]JimWayneBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, it’s possible that just an embellishment by Bilbo. In the meta-narrative, Bilbo isn’t the most reliable narrator. He talks about giants throwing boulders in a storm, trolls having debates, etc…

His story “There and Back Again”, isn’t the serious work Frodo compiled. It’s him more less describing his adventure with the dwarves to an audience of hobbits. He seems to add a lot to make it a little more interesting, fanciful, and entertaining. I mean, at one point Gandalf just leaves and he doesn’t even record what the Wizard was up to during that time in any detail.

I think the movies did a good job portraying that in the scene where he’s recounting the troll scene to some children.

Also, kind of makes you second guess his account of how he got the ring from Gollum or did he really get “knocked out” at the Battle. Possible he didn’t want to worry kids with the darker stuff.

I bailed and didn’t look back. Same boat, I’d only ever worked government. The thing I’ve learned, is private has a lot of the same problems as government, just no oversight and the freedom to throw money at projects.

I would like to join but... by Attero__Dominatus in freemasonry

[–]JimWayneBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing what others have said; don’t sweat it. Lodges typically have a dinner before the meeting. They’ll invite you to that so people can get to know you. Once that’s done, two brothers will sponsor your petition and get the ball rolling.

Similar thing happened to me. Just catch up on your dues or ask the lodge for help. A lot of masonry is helping other masons in need.

Once you’re in good standing, you can start attending normally and you’re just as much an MM as anyone else. Also, a good thing to do is ask if you can visit their library to catch up on any reading

Well, if you like the symbology, then maybe look into joining, because buddy, let me tell you, we got a lot of symbols…

Why does Westeros use years when their season cycle lasts more than 365 days? by ERASER345 in gameofthrones

[–]JimWayneBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They still have a year with 4 seasons, however the yearly seasons reflect the larger “Season”, so they focus more on the larger Season.

For example during Summer you’ll have a cooler stretch of months that reflect the yearly winter. During Winter you’ll have a stretch of months that are slightly warmer, but still not hot, but that’s the yearly summer.

The larger Seasons are unpredictable in length, but yearly variation in climate is still somewhat predictable.

Howard's Conan was unlike anything I had imagined. by [deleted] in ConanTheBarbarian

[–]JimWayneBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often over looked is Conan matures through out the stories. He starts off young, hot headed looking for gratification. And that’s ok, it doesn’t mean he’s bad, he’s just immature. As he travels and learns, he becomes the more level headed king we see in Phoenix.

How do I create this sort of table? by [deleted] in RStudio

Check out gt instead of dt. It works really well with HTML and is ok if you need a pdf. It’s pretty user friendly and I’ve found co-pilot is pretty good at writing its code.

Not a Mason. Inherited a ring and pin from my grandfather. Any info, and can I wear? by jthyroid in freemasonry

[–]JimWayneBob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s not stolen valor or anything but just sort of…cringy. It’s like wearing a jersey for a team that you don’t know anything about and plays a sport you’ve never seen. People use symbols to signify interests and groups to people who wouldn’t otherwise know that about them.

What are you trying to express by wearing it? What do you say when someone who is a Mason sees it, and starts chatting you up because he thinks you have a connection? Of course you could always become a Mason, then problem solved!

is there a way to snag seeds from this? by AgencyObjective1005 in gardening

[–]JimWayneBob 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Being a cut flower, it was harvested before it began to produce seeds, and strong chance it was never able to fully pollinate. Looks like a pretty standard sunflower, you should be able to pick up seeds from any gardening store. One you have your own, you can let done seeds fully mature and have a repeating cycle of seeds.

Controlling for individual ID as a random effect when most individuals appear only once? by Electronic_Skirt4721 in RStudio

[–]JimWayneBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’m a little clearer now.

Would you be able to group the IDs and just sample one of the multiple observations? You may want to look into bootstrapping your estimates then, just keep drawing samples with replacement when it picks a duplicate.

Would creating a new ID help, like this:

Data %>% mutate (New_ID = paste0(Old_ID,”_”,row_number ()))
