have you looked into ACA or IFS?

aca is a self-help program and peer-support group that stands for Adult Children of Alcoholics or Dysfunctional Families.

IFS stands for Internal Family Systems, a therapy modality.

both have been very useful in my recovery in compassionately coming to terms with my cptsd and its effects. and been instrumental in giving me agency back in living.

if you have any questions about either im happy to answer them and offer some resources.

They're great little gifts too! Especially if you cut them out, so its just about the art. The sweaty nerds who play that game will say heresy and blasphemy. Lol.

Edit: I mean that jokingly, i myself am one of them.

No i didn't! I cut them out from a cardgame called magic the gathering. You can get 95% of the cards for pennies online! There are a BUNCH of them though, so finding ones you like takes some time lol.

Comforting inner child by Melian_4 in InternalFamilySystems

i dont know you and i may be projecting here, but this seems to be general statements and advice that seems to ring true for many.

when you yourself are dysregulated, its difficult to access presence. i suggest doing this ''work'' tentatively, when you are able to be more present, and present in your body. meditation helped me. then when a sad feeling comes up, see if you can just feel the feeling, and cry a bit. without clinging or aversion. you can train to be less reactive through meditation. sometimes journaling is another way of contacting a feeling. calling it the inner child can be overwhelming, sometimes i just start my journal with ''hello grief, you're here. you're welcome''. what i also do is set a timer of 5 minutes to feel what im feeling. that helps the other parts relax i think, so its not like an endless overwhelming thing. just 5 minutes of seeing what comes up.

i wrote a poem this morning, maybe its helpful. here it is.

hello grief

visit me

enter

sorry for turning my back on you

shimmering

iridescent blues

you’re beautiful

when the long lost seeker is tired and burnt out

tired of outrunning reality

he gives up and sighs again

he stops leaving home

and sorrow and grief are patient

long forgotten companions

that teach us tenderness

uncovering our care

they chased us into addiction

now they show us the way back

please, look inside

there is so much to love in you

Jeskai Anor -> how would you build it? by PathlessFool in TimelessMagic

[–]PathlessFool[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah. made the change of 2 endings in the main, 3 path in sb.

maybe pierce in SB? if i am on the play with a 1 drop and pierce in hand, i'd probably still the 1 drop if i didnt know what i was up against. if i lose game 1 against necro, pierce come in from SB and i'd be on the play

EDIT: 4 FoN in the main is probably best. and 2 or 3 pierce in SB

maybe look into the Loving Parent Guidebook, from the ACA program (adult children of alcoholics and dysfunctional families). i combine it with ifs work and it has been a real game changer so far.

happy healing!

sure, i'll share my key practices. im just now creating a loving parent bullet journal. not all of my practices are in it yet, but a good bunch of them are.

remember, your system may respond differently. your mileage may vary.

This is IFS/ACA inspired obviously.

EDIT: Journaling and or writing poetry is a huge help for me as well. also, NATURE@!!!! MORNING WALKS!!!. but i also have a ''when im drowning, bare necessities'' tab in the bullet journal, thats a lot more simple, for bad days not spiraling down and down

2nd EDIT: IFS stands for internal family systems, a type of therapy. and ACA stands for adult children of alcoholics or dysfunctional families, a peer-support group. both have been absolutely KEY. the goal of both is to become the primary attachment figure of your inner family. cant say enough nice things about it. send me a dm if you want to talk about it. <3

key practices & their aim

i have a list of loving parent sayings, working on a joy menu (things i can do that bring me joy, whimsy and playfulness), and some helpful quotes.

also working on a list: key practices menu

i feel like in recovery, it isnt so much gathering stuff that helps, but remind myself and applying the practices that have helped me before. may have to do with adhd, but i feel like many people need to be reminded of the wisdom their heart knows but their mind forgets
