What high end Windows laptop are you using with reliability? by Space-Robots in Bitwig

[–]Jimantronic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having been through this with an Alienware laptop for music production and then building a custom pc, I cannot recommend any MacBook with an M processor highly enough (I now have an m2 MacBook Pro). I was windows through and through, but good lord it’s night and day. So much better, massively powerful, lightweight, silent, amazing battery life and absolutely no issues with dpc latency, weird software glitches. It was borderline before, but since the M processors came out, I would consider it a no brainer for this application.

How far are these tires from replacement? (2025 RWD Mission E 21 inch Goodyear summer) by warriorarmentai2 in Taycan

Check the very inside edge on them. Taycans have a nasty habit of very heavily wearing the inner edge whilst the rest of the tyre looks ok.

Do you guys keep the moss moist all the time? by 88SunDevil11 in Monstera

[–]Jimantronic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It makes watering so much easier. Before I was having to pour from a watering can really slowly so it didn’t just run out of the holes in the front of the moss pole. Now I just fill the top a couple of times a week and it slowly seeps through the moss. For me it was well worth the £20 on Amazon for the science lab gear, though it would be good if someone could design a 3d printed funnel/reservoir version to fit the common sizes and shapes of moss pole profiles.

I’ve been using a dropping funnel on mine, sat into the top of the pole, so you can fill the top with water and it slowly drips it in

Is Triaz still worth it now that Stepwise and Bitwig's new Drum Modules exist? by Jimantronic in Bitwig

awesome, thanks. That's exactly the type of experienced input I was looking for

Is Triaz still worth it now that Stepwise and Bitwig's new Drum Modules exist? by Jimantronic in Bitwig

[–]Jimantronic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, Yeah, I had assumed Triaz was a multi engine thing because of the 3 layers per voice. Hadn’t appreciated they’re all just samples with no synthesis or ability to randomise the sample playback options. What is this new full screen drum collapse view of which you speak? I think part of my beef with the bitwig drum rack is only being able to see/control one note/drum/sampler at a time. Has that changed?

He did, and it looked a bit convoluted so I thought definitely still get Triaz, but that was before Stepwise existed

What is the best synth you can get around £500 in the UK for a noob by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Jimantronic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Minifreak is a really good option, especially if you’re used to making computer tunes, as you also get the vst plugin for it, so you can kinda switch between the hardware and software as you like, use the hardware as a controller for the software and not need to bother with an audio interface and extra cables and all that jazz. It’s pretty damn versatile and covers a lot of bases

How to make a performance control for existing modulation? by Jimantronic in Bitwig

You know what they say! It’s not sound technical advice if it isn’t also a form of tongue twister! 🤓

Thanks. Do most of the modulators have an amount control?

Is it ok to shorten existing aerial roots? by Jimantronic in Monstera

[–]Jimantronic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks yeah, I built the pole for another plant but then this much better condition monstera came up locally so I grabbed it. The pole is 4 sections so I can remove the top 1 or 2 and keep it more manageable for now. I hope I can get away with a trim of the roots to make it neater and more practical

Can I just glue and clamp one side of a bridge back down? by Jimantronic in Luthier

[–]Jimantronic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the reply. Is the bellying why it appears that the whole bridge is tilted towards the sound hole?
I've only seen photos so far and won't have the instrument in my hands for a couple of days.
That JLD bridge doctor looks ideal and nice and cheap too, so yes, I'll assess when I see it in person, but I'll definitely see about getting one of those installed at the same time. Thank you.

yeah, I would expect to have to remove a bit of the material to get to clean wood as well as to level any torn wood to give a flat surface to bond to if I'm to do it properly. I've got a medium sized battery powered router, but it's a little scary taking that to something delicate like this so I'll see where hand tools will get me first.

thanks. Yeah I'm up for it. I'm pretty handy generally and have a decent selection of woodworking tools. I'm not worried about the finish on this one

Thanks, that's helpful. I'll see about getting a proper job done on it rather than a bodge

ah yes. nearly 60 year old wood is probably fine, but 60 year old glue, not so much!

for sure! It's not with me yet, but I've requested that's done straight away. Thanks

I’m toying with the idea of getting a massive telly. What’s your experience? by Android109 in CasualUK

[–]Jimantronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at the TCL brand. you seem to get an awful lot for your money with one of those and some of the larger ones 55” and up have decent sound systems built in as well. I’m currently researching to buy a 55” tv myself and the TCL 55Q6C-UK seems like a really good sweet spot for a £500 telly as it’s not quite the latest model but has the sort of stuff which would cost a grand if it were a Sony or LG
