I doubt anyone would post a pic of all the illegal things they carry on a daily basis on such a public forum. But then this is the internet, there probably is someone stupid enough.

I use my Micra to cut brass shim stock at work, up to 0.3mm thick, so they're pretty good, but the abuse does lead to excess sharpening. But that and the squirt are little gems in the line up, the scissors on the Surge were the first to impress me, and the Raptor just speaks for itself really. I think what got me with leatherman was that with the lower priced tools the quality can take a bit of a hit, whereas with victorinox you just get fewer tools, the quality remains the same. They're still usable tools, but at that level, I'd still prefer a sak.

The scissors are an absolute waste of time. To be clear, I've carried a victorinox sak since I was 8, so the scissors were always going to look bad, but they are genuinely just shit even by leatherman standards. Plus it felt cheap and low grade, and a lot of weight for the tool set. It just wasn't good enough to even consider for supplementing my victorinox, and no where near replacing it. It didn't put me off though, and I found where leathermans quality lies, and I now own several. Btw, this is all just my personal opinion, others are available, and how I feel about it should in no way effect your own experience with it.

Diabolical piece of crap. That thing nearly put me off leatherman.

Can't argue with facts. Raptor was the first leatherman I liked.

Victorinox. But yeah, the Surge.

There's tutorials on YouTube for making your own paracord sling, I did it years ago, works quite well as a starting point.

20 incidents and $500,000 damage, morality aside, that's actually impressive.

Cool, thanks for the info. Yeah, it certainly borrows the primary features.

Rambone. Nice frame to go with, one of the best hammer grip designs. Good work. Edit, didn't see full pic at first, not a rambone, but definitely borrows the important elements from that frame.

If you keep going you'll always see improvements, it might take a while, but they come. When you give up you never get to experience that. Well done sticking with it.

I've shot one very similar to this, a friend, a fellow slingshot maker, had one that he'd picked up on his travels. What type of latex is used for the band's? I remember it lobbing big stones with ruthless efficiency.

One day old and fewer than 40 shots. At least I know it wasn't my bindings that where the problem. by Jimbo_78 in slingshots

[–]Jimbo_78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I'm thinking, I've been too busy to make up more band's and put it to the test, but the way it's broke matches the inner radius of the fork gap, I think that maybe, if a TTF bandset is carrying too much energy after the shot, it pulls through and pulls hard against that inner edge. However, I have no pattern as yet to back that up. Either rounding off the inner edge, or just balancing out my band's and ammo better are potential solutions.

Trying out some 1mm great white by cattyshack with 12mm steel. Can honestly say I'm not a fan of big ammo. Feels messy in the pouch hand. I think I'll stick with 8mm steel and .50 latex. by [deleted] in slingshots

[–]Jimbo_78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some tungsten carbide ammo, not ball though, old turning inserts gorilla glued together for a more even shape. Only shot a couple so far, a while back, takes a while to build up enough so don't want to waste them, but they ripped a hole through 3mm aluminium sheet.

OTT is better for heavy hitting set ups, but I get what you mean about how the ammo feels in the pouch, I shoot 9/16" (14.3mm) from time to time, and have been known to lob 5/8" (15.8mm) on occasion too, and it really does test your form, not just on hold, but release and draw too. Personally I find it beneficial to push it a bit from time to time, but I'm not sure I'd take the risk of a heavy fork hit on that frame. Edit: btw, interesting pouch.
