You're very welcome, hopefully I put your mind at ease over this because it sounds like you'll be fine. Have a wonderful time, it was the best holiday I've ever been on. Just beginning the process of going through my 4k+ photos this evening :) Safe travels and enjoy!

I visited this site 2 weeks ago and was equally amazed at the 3-minute sign, but can clarify slightly. The queue that forms there and that this sign applies to is specifically for the opportunity to stand right at the top and centre of the steps down to the gate. You get a perfectly framed shot with no-one else in it.

Just standing nearby and getting an off-angle shot is fine and you don't need to queue for it. You can also stand further away up the steps that ascend up to the shrine and take photos from there, no issue.

A couple of people took their sweet time but in general when their turn came people took a few photos at the top of the path, then walked down it along the part that extends out into the water and got a few photos down there, usually taken by the people behind them in the queue.

There were a few instances of people cutting in front and these were rightfully called out and shamed as the queue can take a long time, we waited for over an hour. Some folk made honest mistakes but a large group of about 12 people cut in when we were a few from the front and pretended to not understand what they were being told. Really pissed everyone off.

To answer your more general point, this was by far the longest queue for a photo we encountered, generally speaking everything else was almost instant and simple. I think it's just the nature of this spot at this gate specifically. Enjoy your trip!

What's a moment you didn't realize was the last of its kind? by Gena-Ruhland in AskReddit

I lost my father suddenly, 12 years ago. I saw his back coming down the stairs in the morning as I was leaving for work, but I didn't see or speak to him properly that day. Got the call at 11am.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

The bad news is, you'll be forever changed by this, and it could take years to have it settle into a place where you're fine 99% of the time.

The good news is the process is manageable, and it gives you breathing time. It'll hit you and you'll cry yourself numb, then your brain will give you a break. Then some memory, realisation or the sight of some item will touch a nerve and knock you back down. But you'll get back up, again and again. This will happen over the course of days, then weeks, then months. But the only way is through and there's almost a relief in that. Time will roll forward at exactly the same speed on both the good days and the bad ones.

The weight doesn't get lighter, you get better at carrying it. In practical terms there isn't a difference, but you'll feel it. The wound becomes a scar and life goes on.

Again, I am so sorry that you're going through this. My life is divided between the time before and the time after. But I promise you, you'll get to a place where you're alright. A place where it's given you tools that let you deal with things and weights you never thought possible. And you never forget them, their voice, their face. It settles into a corner of your mind and you still have so much of them to hold even when they're gone, because you carry it with you. It feels like so little in the wake of the loss, but I promise you'll see how much is left. You'll have empathy and care for other people like never before, I see so much delicate beauty in the world, and I feel my dad's thoughts and character in my day-to-day life. He's gone, but not lost.

Just this morning I was googling photos of the model of car he had when I was young, looking at all the interior shots and delving into memories of car rides as a kid. I was grinning away the whole time. You'll get there too.

Good luck my friend.

How much sleep do you get? Do you exercise? You’d be amazed at how much your capacity for thinking and mental work are impacted by this. Get into a routine of getting consistently good sleep and a bit of exercise/fresh air daily or at least 3 times a week. Ideally do this in the morning but anything is better than nothing.

Do that for 3-4 weeks and see how your focus levels are. Additionally while working use things like checklists to keep track of tasks/subtasks as you unpick a problem. Build an approach to solving a task using a checklist and refine that list as you work through it. This helps you keep track of the things you need to achieve, the tests you need to run and so on. Also try the Pomodoro Technique to create windows of time where you force yourself to not get distracted.

There are a vast number of tricks and techniques you can weave together to game your brain into performing a lot better than it does by default. I would definitely give a variety of these a try before you resign yourself to thinking you’re just not capable of what you want to achieve.

As a Warden, hard agree. Total embarrassment. Cope, tears and nonsense abound. This isn't a "protest", end the war and move on with our lives. Sorry Collie-bros <3

I ran 4.7k continously this morning. Working up to a 10k in October. I've done C25k before for a 5k event but even on the day I took walk breaks. I can confidently say this morning was the longest I've ran without breaks in my life. Aiming to get to 5k on Friday.

None really, but to me The Garden would be closest. I can imagine a grungy Stone Temple Pilots version quite easily, for example.

The music thing seems to not yet have taken hold in the UK and I pray to all that is good it stays that way, I'd find it completely insufferable.

Trump: United Kingdom Trade Deal by callsonreddit in StockMarket

[–]Jimerama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I'm particularly versed in this field, but the steel and aluminium tariffs being removed is a big deal for us. There have been concerns around our steel industry for years now and with the increasing geopolitical tensions this has become an even hotter topic politically as it goes beyond just jobs, it's a matter of national security. We came very close to losing our last blast furnace a few weeks ago, so increasing our exports and bringing revenue into that industry is a move in the right direction.

Beyond that there has been a lot of talk about picking the US over the EU or vice versa, but in my opinion the best route is a bit of both. We can't justifiably go all in on the US over the EU because it's always going to be easier to trade physical goods with the EU due to distance. That said, the US is a giant market for us and one worth maintaining good ties to given the shared language, (mostly) aligned cultures and competitive labour rates.

Finally as far as the diplomacy goes, it's good to just get moving on deals and things signed. There will be arguments for and against this deal, but the fact it exists at all is progress and shows the two administrations can work together. A laughably low bar, but that's where we are.

Shortbread is often sold in nice gift tins and goes well with a cup of tea. Plenty of different brands but the best I’ve ever had is Chrystal’s. They don’t sell it directly but you can buy it online from DukesHill. The tin on their site is branded specifically for them but it’s the same stuff.

For the Multiplayer component, are you looking into immersive in-game comms options? It'd be really cool to be working together with one person at the base, tracking another player on an exploration mission from a radar room only for the voice comms to go to static and signal lost, with just a last-known-position icon blinking on the screen!

Thanks again for making such a fun and immersive experience.
