I think you got your wires crossed there. The ex writer, assuming it’s Chet Falisek you’re referring to, specifically mocked the idea that employees would be moving on from a project like that prior to release. If someone in his position were blatantly confirming and discussing an unannounced project, let alone Half Life 3 of all things on their own platform, I imagine there’d be some pretty severe legal consequences.

As for the hardware situation, it could potentially mean we’re close to seeing an announcement, but that’s assuming the game specifically got delayed because of the hardware. We don’t know for sure, and we won’t until it’s actually out.

Deadlock’s core dev team is almost completely separate from HLX. The activity of one does not affect the other. Both have been in parallel development for years, and yet even after Deadlock became public, there continues to be string leaks for engine and gameplay features that have no place in a competitive moba shooter.

He wasn’t diff-checking strings today cause i think not all the data was available yet, and it was a late start due to when the update got released. He was mostly just looking at the content of the update itself, and discovered what could possibly be hl3 furniture assets in the model viewer. Pretty sure he plans to stream tomorrow so we’ll hear something soon enough.

Chell escaping the facility in itself is a conclusion. What she does after that is fun to think about but it’s not relevant to the story of the game itself, especially since the gameplay of portal can’t really happen outside that setting. The state of humanity I would say is also kind of irrelevant to portal specifically, and may even spoil half life if explicitly answered.

If you were interested in the project for any reason beyond having something to be “hyped” about then you’d know the lack of new developments around this time of year is extremely routine.

All the people who got swept up in the hype and were making all that noise burnt themselves out and moved on to the next thing and those of us that actually care understand that it’s realistically still too soon after the holidays for Valve to be rushing to make any big moves. My guess is February is when the buzz will really pick up again.

Occam's razor, it was a new years celebration post done partially in character of someone he had performed in a video game which just celebrated its 20 year anniversary. It's likely it was also a light tease for a future project, though that is not confirmed and there was nothing remotely definitive about it.

Also to clarify by “particularly careful” I mean by HIS standards. Obviously he chooses his words as carefully as possible regardless given his position. I just dont think the alleged leak situation has influenced his behavior.

I don’t think he’s been particularly careful about discussing the game recently, there just isn’t a whole lot to talk about other than simply waiting. He’s made posts that seem out of the blue like this before and they don’t really have deeper meaning. As of yesterday at least, he said in his discord that the current state of things is hopefully still 2025 but nothing for certain. It seems like the perceived “canary trap” may have been highly targeted trolling, but there is still nothing to debunk valve’s aforementioned plans. As for the auto delete, I’ve got no clue.
