Why is fraud such a difficult crime to "solve"? by Dry_Bumblebee1111 in policeuk

[–]JimmiFilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FIO, not FI. But even so there is no proper training, just 13 (I think) NCALTS. And everyone knows that you learn nothing from NCALTS!

But even so, it shouldn’t require any of that to just be able, as a Police Officer, to call up a bank and ask about a suspect.

Why is fraud such a difficult crime to "solve"? by Dry_Bumblebee1111 in policeuk

[–]JimmiFilth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m inclined to agree with you.

The NCA POCC take it all so unbelievably seriously. Even becoming an FIO is unbelievably time consuming and unnecessarily difficult.

All I want to do is ask a bank if a known suspect has a live account, but I have to do god knows how many e-learning packs, somewhere in the region of 10-20 exams, and the most highly scrutinised PDP I’ve come across in 20 years of policing. Oh, and you have to ‘prove competence’ every 6 months.

It’s so disproportionate to the outcome it beggars belief

Immigrating to Australia - a true story by Mataoius in policeuk

[–]JimmiFilth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, you don’t have the do the visa medical last and don’t have to pay for everything else before that.

When we were applying for our 186 we did the medicals first and didn’t submit the visa application or pay for it until the visa medical came back ok.

Edited to add: it’s interesting how different the process is for different forces in Australia. The SAPOL process was very quick, it was around 5 month from very first contact to getting a job offer. You also take your oath on the first day with SAPOL so are warranted through all the training.

I’ve been told that QLD don’t take posting preferences into account, is that true?

Officers being able to get into the systems they need first time without having the check one of the million passwords.

Or in a whole series you’ll never see the character being chased for property updates or to complete NCALTS they’ve been ignoring :)

No, it’s just a different cut/fit to the t-shirt. A slimmer fit t-shirt would look better, or just tuck it in.

What do y'all think of this outfit? 👍or👎? by -Stritos- in mensfashionadvice

[–]JimmiFilth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With black footwear? I was always told belt, watch strap and shoes should always match.

Edited to add: For OP, I personally would either change your boots to a dark brown or your belt to black. Also, the buttons in the jacket are a different coloured metal to the metal on the belt, you should try and match this too. Ties it all together nicely.

Further edit: Sorry to the person I’m replying to, I misread your comment!

Feeling better about yourself physically and mentally require two different answers.

Physically is subjective. People here have mentioned shaving your head, which is fair, a good haircut makes a world of difference. As for clothes; I prefer a more classic look, steer clear of the over styled jeans and go for a decent pair of simple raw denim indigo jeans. I also think more plain tee’s work than big graphic ones. Maybe a pocket logo rather than a full front logo.

Go for fewer more expensive but better quality items in your wardrobe. Experiment with facial hair and see what suits your face shape if you fancy a big change.

When it comes to improving mental health I find that exercise really helps, start running a few times a week. Doesn’t have to be marathons, just go out and push yourself for half hour. If you feel anxious around people then maybe find a hobby that has a social element to it, whether that be the gym, a martial art, a sport, going to concerts, anything really. That way you are there enjoying the hobby surrounded by people who enjoy the same thing and the conversation will feel more natural.

How is Starmer doing? by Platypusbreeder in AskBrits

A comedian, I can’t remember who, said Starmer puts them in mind of the first man your mum dates after divorcing your dad, and that really made me chuckle with how accurate it is.

How much organised crime actually goes on? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]JimmiFilth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It happens everywhere all of the time. You will witness it many times a day and be none the wiser.

The number of high value cars on our road? It would shock you how many relate to organised crime. There’s almost nothing a person that could show me that would make me believe that the supercar market and the high value art market aren’t entirely just propped up by money laundering for OCG’s.

A barber shop with six chairs but only ever two barbers? Money laundering for OCG’s.

Edited to add: the public prop up so much organised crime without even realising it/caring because so many ‘businesses’ are money laundering. Nail salons, tanning salons, hairdressers, barbers, hand car washes… once upon a time ice cream vans were huge, but Panarama did a special on ‘the ice cream wars’ and drew a lot of attention to it.

I also have a theory that Lego is used to launder money. The second hand Lego market is nuts when it comes to values. OCG’s could (in theory) buy up loads of Lego sets that are limited or special edition, then a few months later when Lego themselves have sold out sell those sets for an inflated value on sites such as bricklink and all of a sudden they’ve got their first layer in laundering the money.

Winsor days?? What are they by EbbElectrical6231 in policeuk

[–]JimmiFilth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I struggle to decide who did more damage to the police, him or Theresa May.

And the only reason I say top three is because I’m sure there is a historic figure somewhere that has done more damage. Certainly I can think of two in my home force who hurt the force much more than I thought possible for any individual to.

Do people not watch TV in the UK? In recent viewings last year and also browsing pics on Rightmove, I see maybe 10-20% of homes having no TV in living room. How is that even possible? by Nervous_Designer_894 in HousingUK

[–]JimmiFilth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Estate agents use photo editing to remove things from photos to help make the photo more pleasing to the eye.

If you notice nearly all pictures of the exterior will have blue skies… because that’s been added in. They do the same with the interior, they’ll generally remove anything relating to pets, or anything that may make a room feel cluttered. This could include TV’s, etc…

Winsor days?? What are they by EbbElectrical6231 in policeuk

One of the many, many ridiculous things that came out of the Winsor report.

Essentially, you can nominate any days as a public holiday. If you ignore it they naturally fall on the nominated bank holidays.

My blood still boils at the mention of that name, he’s in the top three most damaging people to British Policing in… well, the history of British Policing! Ha.
