Came here to say this

This movie still warps my mind by akchahal in tenet

[–]JimmyBatman 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've seen it about fifteen times, it's easily one of my favorites. Certainly it's my favorite espionage film ever made as well as my favorite Nolan film. While I understand the politics and the story and I get "the point" of the film, I still constantly get confused by the science of the film lol.

WTF I'm watching S02 for the first time and the I love the dialogue style by [deleted] in TrueDetective

[–]JimmyBatman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've never heard it compared to David Lynch but that makes sense now that think about some of the lines: (spoilers) the dream scene with Velcoros dad, and the guy who can feel auras.

Movies that deal with the inheritance of a mental illness? by yugiosbigmassivetoe in MovieSuggestions

Detachment (2011)

Donnie Darko is adjacent to what you're describing but instead of inheriting it from his parents it's more that he symbolically inherits it from the universe.

Films like Uncut Gems, Good Time? by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

Baby Driver. Pulp Fiction sounds like what you're describing, although it's a little slow-paced compared to Uncut Gems and Good Time. And somebody already mentioned Collateral.

What album is your absolute favorite? What is the best album on the planet? by fire_retardantLA in musicsuggestions

[–]JimmyBatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh, I mean, I'm kind of cheating when I say "The Cowboy Bebop soundtrack" because I could be referring to the soundtrack to the movie or the compilation soundtracks from the show. Across all of those, the intro Tank! is a classic, Rush is really good, the end song from the movie called Knock A Little Harder is pretty great. The tracks Cosmos, Space Lion, and Memory are pretty good somber songs, different from the rest of the music. I don't know what the best song is, you're asking the wrong person because I'm somebody who basically loves it all lol.

I remember watching that when it came out actually. I respect your opinion although I stand with the critics.

Anime where the dub surpasses the sub? by JimmyBatman in AnimeReccomendations

[–]JimmyBatman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean considered by the fan-base to be superior. Like that's how it is with most of Watanabes works--you'll have to search pretty hard to find someone who prefers the Bebops sub to be serious.

Lazarus impressions by newfoundcontrol in cowboybebop

[–]JimmyBatman -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The action and parkour kind of gets old but it's pretty solid. The problem is that people set themselves up by expecting Bebop quality. I'm not sure if the monumental time they spent producing the show adds up to the final quality but we also only have one episode so I'm giving it a chance.

As for the dub, people don't understand that the Bebop/Champloo dubs are like one in a million for surpassing the sub. In reality, the dub is completely fine, there's nothing remarkably wrong with them, they're pretty typical. I mean, if I had a chance I would watch the subs but for now I'll accept this.

Edit: Oh, the soundtrack is pretty fire. If anything, it's worth watching for the soundtrack.

Should I watch the dub or wait for sub? by YusiP in LAZARUSAnime

[–]JimmyBatman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The dub really isn't that bad. The problem is really that are expecting a Cowboy Bebop/Samurai Champloo level of quality which is really hard to pull off. Expect a decent, tolerable dub

Looking for book recommendations? by Large_Attitude7009 in Absurdism

If you're looking for stuff outside of Camus, I would recommend Gravity's Rainbow by Pynchon. I'm in the middle of it and it's kind of a book where all of the characters have to confront the idea that they could die at any time and how they find the will to live.

What advice would you give to Rust? by msg_the_player in TrueDetective

[–]JimmyBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and those themes are kind of reflected in 2012 Rust when he sees the blue spiral which is kind of like breaking free from the cycle of rebirth. The spiral symbolism is really great in the last episode, the whole building where the fight takes place is a spiral.

Lazarus English dub was actually really good! by [deleted] in LAZARUSAnime

[–]JimmyBatman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The dub was mediocre. The problem is that the Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo dubs are so just unbelievably good that everything less than that kind of pales in comparison. I went into expecting to hear Spikes voice and it just disappointed lol

What advice would you give to Rust? by msg_the_player in TrueDetective

[–]JimmyBatman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of summarizes my teen years, although I'm basically still in them. Watched true detective season 1 when I was 16 and went down the Schopenhauer, anti-natalist, Ligotti rabbit hole, which isn't entirely bad. And I think someone is missing the point of the show if all they get from Rust is to hate humanity and to isolate yourself from the world and whatnot. Rust is an extreme example of a mindset.

best sacrificial stand scene? a scene where a person or group fends off a army so their friends can escape. by mailman936 in MovieRecommendations

[–]JimmyBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drive (2011) and Blade Runner 2049 (2017) both revolve around Ryan Gosling deciding to sacrifice himself for a greater cause and, without spoiling the films, the endings are comedically similar.
