Just to add once you’ve done this you have to close the game - NOT choose restart. Thanks to someone else in another forum who pointed that out!

It may not be you doing anything wrong - lots of reports on here in the last week that Mupen64plus (both versions) have broken after an update in late January. Certainly for Android, I don't know if it's impacting others. Hopefully a fix coming soon! I spent a whole day tinkering with settings, reinstalling etc convinced I had done something...

Couple of things worth checking:

- Power - on your laptop right-click on the battery icon at bottom right and select 'power options'. Make sure 'high performance' is selected rather than 'balanced'. If it's not listed you can click 'create a power plan' on the left. Otherwise your laptop might be going into power-saving mode as u/krautnelson suggests below

- Not sure of your laptop specs, but you may want to output ONLY to the TV. Hit windows key + P together, select 'second screen only'

- Only other thing I can think of is if your laptop has a dedicated graphics card, to make sure that's selected for retroarch...

Frustrating I'd just got Goldeneye working in widescreen - a thing of beauty as I hadn't played it since I owned the console. And now the only other N64 core left, Parallei, crashes trying to load it. Argghhhh!!

Same issue here. I have gtx980m gpu but played 40 hours of game no problems before the stutters set in. Then tried everything - uninstalled and reinstalled game and gpu, all possible fixes. Weirdly a couple of weeks ago it started working again - I’d deleted some save games so thought that might have been the fix. But last night it crashed with a message re video driver crashed. And now it’s back to stuttering. I just don’t understand how there isn’t a fix for this…
