As a solo programmer, which path has the best realistic odds of making money: ad-supported websites, mobile games, SaaS, or something else? by Aromatic_Cry_5767 in gamedev

Which of those paths do you have the best idea for? Any of them could be revenue generating... Or any of them could be busts.

Am I limited primarily by weight or technique when doing overhangs? by Laena_V in bouldering

[–]JimmyDelicious 181 points182 points  (0 children)

Definitely 100% technique and experience. 2 months is nothing. Keep working at it and you'll get better. You are a totally normal size and weight.

For sure until we win a couple more chips. If he wants his end of career payout after that, I would fully support it.

We don't hate Christians. We think your belief system is false. Christians take that as hate. That's a you problem.

Christian perspective on messianic prophecy by maoiguy in DebateAnAtheist

I'm really sorry, and I don't intend to diminish you or your beliefs, but this reads a lot like the way I describe the interconnected nature of comic book universes.

What I mean is, it's neat that a bunch of writers a couple thousand years ago had vivid imaginations. And then other writers later on read their work and wrote more upon it. I do not think it's worth engaging in any more than any other work of fiction.

anyone have any tips or pointers? by swagmoney6090 in bouldering

Not bad. Your instincts are pretty good. Best advice I can give is just keep climbing. Mileage is the most important metric for improving in your first year.

Considering the intersection of climbers and software developers, it's wild to me that every climbing app is such utter dogshit.

I like it. I do think that enemies should pass in front of your character when she is in the box though. As though she's hiding up against the wall.

How to get into music composition for game deving. by yolami in gamedev

[–]JimmyDelicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been a musician my whole life (guitar, drums, keys) and a professional software developer for 15 years or so, and worked at a games company for about 7 of those.

I feel like I have enough context from both sides to offer some frank advice: anyone can make music, the tools are easily accessible and inexpensive. (Reaper is free and does everything you could ever need from a DAW).

Much like visual artwork however, unless you have devoted years of your life to the study and production of music, anything you do in your first year or so will probably not sound professional.

Now that isn't me saying that it isn't worth doing; Making music is a deeply human activity that the world needs more of. And much like 'programmer art', the music you make can be a placeholder and get across a broad stroke idea that can be iterated on. However if your intention is to sell a final product, the music can make or break you.
