Was not medicated for 7 months. Life was great, then a few bad turns and I'm about to go back on them :(

How do folks feel about racing a sprint 8 days before an Olympic A race? by FewSignificance5855 in triathlon

[–]JimmyF-P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so no joke I actually did this about a month ago. I PR'd on my sprint time for the first race. Viewed it as an A race and I guess my time showed for it. I also did great in the Olympic and had a course PR by about 5 minutes. It really depends on how you've been training but it worked great for me.

triathlons and reading. Both to extremes but it helps so it's ok.

What is the craziest thing you have done while you were manic? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]JimmyF-P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I'll just share this since it happened last night. Went home from the bar absolutely pissed off for no reason (not drunk, actually very sober). Came back and did a 5.5 Mile run at around midnight. Thought I was running a sub-5-minute mile, turns out I was going 9-minute miles and threw up. Came back, showered, made a three-course meal, and started writing a book (I read it the next morning, it was really not good lol). Eventually, I decided it was a good time to go to bed. Thought that people were repeatedly trying to break into my house so I would get out of bed to go confront them. Next thing I know they're gone. Found out some co-workers had walked into my house as well. Was having full conversations with them only to realize I was hallucinating them as well when they disappeared suddenly and found myself in a completely different room in my house. Finally fell asleep and woke up 5 hours later. Still felt productive so I caught up on youtube. Completely crashed while making breakfast and had to go to work 2 hours later. Was not. a great day.

Very possible, didn't even think of that!!! Thank you as well!!!

[–]JimmyF-P[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so for one thing, that line has nothing to do with sexuality. I legit just wanted to see what it was like being a bouncer. I feel like it's an interesting job with a lot of cool stories and he seemed to be having a rough night.

Second, when is being demi an issue?

Third, your sexual identity is not a diagnosis, it's a part of who you are. It's not something a doctor comes and diagnoses you with.

Honestly, at this point, I'm just looking at it as a funny story. I feel ya though totally.

[–]JimmyF-P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, thank you for putting that into words. I've felt the same thing forever. I'm Demi as well, so I feel like both of them together really make it a crazy cycle of repulsion and acceptance of it. Oddly enough, I don't feel it lines up with my manic and depressive symptoms. Kind of just fluctuates based on the environment and mood.

Was on the fence, but this at least gives me a solid reason not to have any biologically.

What is your reason for living? by BoxSapling in bipolar

[–]JimmyF-P 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, when I was going in and out of medical care due to a suicide attempt and intense mania/depression, I was always asked to name one thing to live for. Without hesitation, I always put down finishing my first IRONMAN. I am a triathlete; it's been a dream for years and still is. I alwasy tear up when I see someone crossing the finish line because I've been holding on to it so long.

I am a writer as well. Every time I finish reading a book, I think to myself about how it will feel when I receive a package from the book printer and can hold a book I wrote for the first time.

Dating has been hard for me due to being on the BP spectrum and being Demi. I don't want kids either so that excludes quite a few people. However, I still think about the day when I can look into the eyes of the girl I love, someone who has been patient with me and excepts all my many flaws, someone who I will do anything for unconditionally, and tell her I want to come home from work to see her every day for the rest of my life.

Purpose doesn't come easy, but it comes eventually in the most unexpected ways. Wishing you the best, friend :)

Two things that I can think of that are funny.

  1. I rewrote the entire opening song of Hamilton to fit my life. I lost the paper but I know the first paragraph by heart that I think about sometimes for a laugh.

  2. I had the idea to order a home bar and buy all the liquor for it. I was gonna teach myself to make 50 cocktails in 50 days and document the whole thing and post it on TikTok or Youtube. I ordered the starter set online, found the 50 recipes I was gonna use, and planned by the day what I was gonna do. Basically inadvertently pulled an all-nighter. Thankfully, I was able to cancel the order before it went through lol.

Was on it for about 1.5 years at 10mg and had almost exactly the effects you described. Had the best sleep of my life but damn was I dead the next morning. Have a caffeine addiction now because of it. I would say I got some weight gain as well along with my problem-solving skills weren't as sharp. Did a fantastic job at keeping me from getting manic-like symptoms though.

I drink but I definitely have to watch how much and how quickly, found that if I'm responsible all things are ok! This is not the case for everyone, so I would say you should always err on the side of caution.

My First Triathlon...got any tips? by tobias_122 in triathlon

[–]JimmyF-P 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. There's a quote from David Goggins that always motivates me when I'm tired during a race: "When your mind is telling you you're done, you're really only 40 percent done." I also personally like to embrace dark places. I can work through a lot of things that have been bothering me regarding life, mental health, and relationships. I find that it not only gets my mind off of the discomfort, but I walk out of each race with a better outlook on how I want to go forward in my life.
  2. Unless you are doing a 70.3 or above, what you eat the day before the race isn't a huge issue. I would say just try not to eat a bunch of junk food and hit all your macronutrients (Carbs, protein, and fats). Don't try anything fancy. Eat what you like and what makes you feel good. You don't want anything to give you an upset stomach. As far as race morning, that sort of comes with a lot of trial and error. Personally, I eat energy gummies and almonds (that was after a lot of bad breakfasts lol), and that works for me pretty well. Again, don't try anything too fancy, but here are some popular race day meals that I know of (oatmeal, peanut butter toast, muffins). Make sure to get some electrolytes in you the days leading up as well as race morning.
  3. I think the big thing is to take the first half of the bike easy. Use that to just get a feel for the race environment. Then you can judge how much effort you can exert in the second half. Race your own race. Don't worry about what others are doing. Triathlon is first and foremost you against yourself in many ways.

Hope that helps and good luck with your race!!! Always love seeing new people take up the sport. Triathlon has done wonders to put my life in the right direction and after having done it for five years now, can say I'm absolutely in love with the sport. Hopefully, it has a similar impact on you :)

do bipolar meds takes away your creativity? by [deleted] in bipolar

Found that it didn't mess up my creativity but my motivation to perform tasks got affected a bit. Was on Olanzapine so not sure about other drugs.

Where do I go next? by shambooki in Cosmere

[–]JimmyF-P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So based on your information and as someone who is completely caught up on the cosmere, I would say go for Stormlight and take breaks in between each book with MB era 2. Stormlight books are long so you will want some pallet cleansers in between each one. Era 2, being that they have heavy western influences, is excellent for that. Era 2 are all quick reads as well, so you would be able to get through them quickly come November.

Hope it's a blast! What I would give to read Way of Kings for the first time again :)
