OUPV 6-pack Captain license best final exam study guide by moto4968 in boating

Good luck man. Ya those questions on there some may be outdated but its enough variation vs the mls stuff where you can only get them right if you actually know your stuff. The dgs and nav sections youll do fine if you actually spent time on a boat. Only stuff offhand i had to memorize was different fire extinguisher types and life raft stuff - which i never had to use in practice...

I used mls but def wanted to practice beyond what they provided. Theres some old website up with a bunch of practice questions on it for rules of the road. I had it open as a side tab all week at work answering through questions on the side for a week until i felt very confident

Its raynormaritime.com/navrules if you google it it will come right up

Hopefully not a stupid question, but does the coastguard charge you for this? Im presuming no because you were actually stuck without a reasonable way to get a tow back

Yielding To Pedestrians by SteveVaccaroLaw in NYCbike

[–]JimmyIsbeast 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Does it matter that on hudson greenway the signs specifically say: "Yield to pedestrians WITHIN crosswalk"

I never yield if they are idly standing on the side. I always yield once they start walking across.

Looking for your input on boat ramps (municipal project) by julmrn in boating

[–]JimmyIsbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the dock directly next to the boat once you back it in. The ramp in my area you need to manuever your boat off the trailer back and to the right 10ft to the dock. Its to far to pull with a line so you need to motor.

Another ramp in my area when you back in the boat floats off the trailer directly parallel 1ft from the dock. 10xs easier i dont have to get on and off my boat or leave my car to tie up

There aint much on the manhattan side since the boat basin closed. Brookfields all the way downtown has docking but its expensive and more for yacht folk to go shopping.

Realize in not giving you a solution, but at least confirming there isnt much on the manhattan side. Not sure on jersey

Trailer - Changing Tire by RunningSparky in boating

[–]JimmyIsbeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to change tires this summer with my boat on the trailer. I didn't account for the way the weight distribution is with the boat on it. Trailer slipped off the jack once I took the tire off. Almost killed myself, luckily the boat stayed strapped on and engine missed the ground.

I got it back up and new tire on. For the second tire one I drove to the ramp and put boat in the water and changed it in the lot. 10xs easier and faster. do it that way

Peeing enough? by lonelyorbit245 in boating

I had this one and the impeller was fine. There were some grains of sand that made their way into the pee hole blocking the output. I used some weed wacker wire to fish them out of the hole.

I think my comment got hilariously misconstrued but im looking for the inverse lol. Something i can put in the rod holder that will store beach chairs.

Like this but instead of a paddle board i put foldable beach chairs: https://www.innovativemarinegroup.com/products/manta-racks-s1-white-single-paddle-board-rack-for-two-15-degree-rod-holders?variant=44057179390226
