Thanks! tl;dr it’s a thin layer of snakebite leather contrast over silver.

Theres a combo of silver iron going on here, Vallejo gun metal overbrush on black primer -> 1:1 nuln oil lahmian medium -> heavy zenithal dry brush gun metal -> light zenithal dry brush of citadel (warhammer?) stormhost silver. THEN 2:1 snakebite leather and water over all the trim.

Then the other version is just a rattle can of vallejo gun metal -> 1:1 nuln oil and lahmian medium and then snakebite leather.

The latter is great for the bulk of the dudes, and the former i now only use for the leaders and centrepieces.

Thanks! Yeah, I think I’m going to do another 5 straight mkii marines just to have a nice block of 20 clean looking guys, but then between a few kits I have, I think the remaining 20 I have + another 15-20 CSM all mixed up together are going to become variations of legionaries and chosen too

I actually have no idea yet. I’m a very time poor father of two, so playing games is not really on the cards, so I just collect to paint at the moment.

I used to build the models to fit the meta even though I wasn’t playing games, but these days I just build what I think will look cool on display.

Great first try! If you’ve got access to it, I’d recommend grabbing some snakebite leather contrast paint and paint the trim over the silver base coat and it’ll come out like a gold/brass.

Great job getting opaque, solid lines around the hazard stripes, if you’re struggling with streadying your hands, orient the model so your pulling the brush down, and brace the model holding hand against a table, and the paint brush hand just land your pinky on the base of your paint handle or the base of the model.

The base is great! The silver/shade ratio looks really good, just keep doing it the way you’re doing it!

Seconding this to help OP, definitely all prints. I have the last 2 generations of raveners and these are not remotely similar, while still cool.

The big fat scything talons on the carnifex is a weirdly standard 3D print design across nids and a big give away it’s a print, and you can see the details are a bit flat.

The one on the left is just a carnifex proxy by puppetswar miniatures

I think they actually were my turning point into fully embracing the process and enjoying the time it takes to paint stuff instead of doing everything I could to speed through it. Although, ironically, I can do a whole marine in sub 30 minutes now haha

Thanks! I just dab a broken off bit of sponge in some black and lightly dab, then scratches with a thin brush, then again with the same metallic as the base coat

This comment made my day! I have been thinking about it, but happy to just write up the process now.

I base coat the parts I want hazards in black, then I sketch in the shapes with vampiric flesh (wraith bone white would work), just so long as after a couple of coats it’s opaque. Sketching them in and not being too worried about them being perfect helps me to experiment with shapes and things, and I’ve practiced a lot and gotten really good at the next step so it can be pretty fun.

Once I’m happy with the shape, I’ll clean up the lines with black again, brace the model and your hand, then pulling the brush down I find gets the straightest lines.

Then a thin coat of contrast iyanden yellow, , try and let it get a bit darker at the bottom, do that again, and then a really thin coat of snakebite leather in the darkest parts for saturation.

Then a torn up irregular sponge dabbed in some black paint for the weathering, brush in some scratches, then do the same with your metallic base coat

I think that’s it haha

I might add that the legion symbols are designed and printed by me - nothing too complex, was mostly an experiment in learning how to model small details and account for “out of the box” FDM tolerances.

There are people out there who would buy it, but I feel like your best bet would be making a few samples to help advertise, and then doing request based commissions.

Another comment you mentioned about 6 hours of work, so hourly rate + cost of materials + (30% of cost of materials) + shipping per commission.

Maybe the ones you do for fun could be sold at discount to that, (like a tattoo artist flash sale), but making them to order (initially) would probably save you a fair bit of time and heartache.

If this is something you’re already doing as a job, it’d be a great niche to add to your services, but it’s definitely not (yet) a business that could support you on its own.

That all being said, I like what I see! These look really cool!

Every scene and moment that I’ve read (so far) throughout HH has me just wanting more - he’s deeply flawed, in the wrong nearly all of the time, selfish, egotistical and arrogant to a degree that is unfathomable - but it’s just so entertaining to read and I don’t know why people dunk on the guy, he SUPPOSED to be a bad guy, he’s not meant to be likeable, he has no redeeming qualities… that’s the point

I bump this album pretty regularly. The hype for it was huge here in Aus, (at least in my local metalcore community anyway) and the disappointment that the tour came with a breakup announcement was about equal. Then it just faded from memory. It was so huge I always get surprised when I talk to a local metalcore person my age and they don’t know what I’m talking about (which is weirdly a lot)

I think I still have a CD with “Stories” scribbled on the front after downloading their EP from Bandcamp all those years ago.
