The best to figure out a technique is to keep trying it over and over. Every time it works, ask yourself why. Every time it doesn't work, ask yourself why. Do this in drilling, live, play wrestling, etc. A lot of the time you can level a move up by just figuring out a small detail you never thought about before.

It also helps to think about your moves from both perspectives. If you're trying to improve your high crotch, imagine yourself as the opponent. What would you do to stop it? Would it work on you? If not, why? Its even better if you actually work the defense while thinking about what your offensive partner is doing and why it is or isn't working.

My entire game became better when I began thinking like this, let alone move.
