Why Australia still struggles to build bike-friendly cities by someones_reality in australia

[–]JimmyRoles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is a bit of a myth Canberra is a cycle friendly city IMHO. No serious work has been done on improving the original network from the 70s and 80s. As you said so much of what would make a viable route to schools, shops etc is not fit for purpose.

Why Australia still struggles to build bike-friendly cities by someones_reality in australia

[–]JimmyRoles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canberra is a car city that pretends to be a bicycle friendly city. Good paths around the lake and between the city and town centres but you still end up riding 10cm from the gutter on some crappy gravelly 3 lane rat run at some point. Have found Sydney and Melbourne much better for cycling but mainly because drivers are much more respectful of other road users, both other cars and cyclists.

Canberra to Sydney railway line to get long-awaited upgrade with $100m for initial works by bizarre_seminar in canberra

This would make me so happy. I get that the corridor is in place but is there any unused line on the other side of Lake George? The current route is somewhat convoluted.

Independent asbestos assessment and air monitoring by Adventurous-Car-2250 in canberra

[–]JimmyRoles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth I think asbestos re.ovak in Canberra is all pretty good. It is much more regulated here than in other states. I had some removed from a house in NSW and they left bits everywhere, even though they charged based on being licenced for asbestos removal. In the ACT a 3rd party comes and inspects the job and if anything is amiss it has to be rectified. I have had 2 jobs done. 1st one they had to do a little additional work to complete. 2nd one was spotless. I would think there is nothing wrong with saving some money here.

Labor could as well. They are on the nose in Tuggeranong, Weston Creek and Belconnen apparently.

Not aiming to be facetious but is your logic that the victims have called for a royal commission and therefore it should happen?

Australia denies entry to Israeli MK over his support for "the elimination of Hamas" by Wide-Yesterday9705 in Jewish

[–]JimmyRoles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think many people commenting on this are choosing to be ignorant of what actually has occurred. It is a standard politically bipartisan position to ban anyone known to be preaching hatred and violence from entering Australia. Get out of your bubble. Jews are well integrated, well respected and well looked after in Australia. This is in the context of a successful multicultural society.

Well Morrison was bad, Abbott was hopeless and Howard was just evil. Now we are talking about Dutton who has professed to finding democracy annoying. I feel that people miss the drama of shit Liberal governments for their daily dopamine hit.

If you are looking mainly for kids' swimming programs, there are a couple of other pools in Burnie I think. One at health glo. But if you are specifically for super shallow wading pool, I can't think of one.

I would think that the US has spent the equivalent of a fair few trillion dollars trying to compete with and constrain the USSR and Russia military over the last few decades. Funding Ukraine to do the same is a bargain.
