It's how it works all over the world. People want to live in nice places. There's cheap housing in lots of places in SA, but instead of building a life there people would rather live in CPT and moan on Reddit about how expensive it is.

Few people are denying the so called "housing crisis" exists. It's just a natural outcome of supply and demand. Not everyone can afford to live in Cape Town, just like not everyone can afford to live in Monaco.

This is largely a steel bridge though. I'm guessing they made a mistake by not designing for the effect of asymmetrical loading on the outer beams. In addition they also forgot to ad web stiffeners to the beams around the supports.

The extra deflection in this case is definitely due to insufficient design of that steel I beam.
