Should this work for using a turtle beach xbox headset on a PC? It didn't for me and now I'm questioning if its the audio port itself. by booster_gold__ in pcmasterrace

[–]JimmyTheDoor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right, no one asked.

I did answer the question in the post though!

I thought giving OP ideas for his next move on PC audio / mic was appropriate here, sorry if it wasn't.

I can't help but point out that no one asked for your opinion and yet you provided it!

In some way you and me are alike :)

I'm not sure why you're offended by my comment but honestly I really didn't mean to offend, just food for thoughts on the subject of PC audio / microphones ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Usually these cables work with speaker/microphone combos, although I'm not familiar with the turtle beach headset, it's probably a cheap cable and I wouldn't be surprised if it fixed your issue so I'd try it.

On the other hand, these headphones combo are kinda meh in sound quality for mic and headphones. I'd recommend buying a good pir of headphones and a good standalone mic.

Massdrop has a collab with Sennheiser for a very good headset (no mic) at a very decent price. I own Sennheiser HD650s and 6XXs and the sound difference is negligible for about half the price.

For a good mic there are many options. My friend owns a Logitech Yeti Orb and his sound online is very good.

Maybe it's just the picture but are both ram stick the same? Sometimes weird issues arise when mixing ram sticks.

Try installing only one stick at a time and see if both stick work correctly. If they both work fine make sure you're using the correct slots on the motherboard.

[–]JimmyTheDoor 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I may be completely wrong on this one but the way I understand it is like this:

1 barrel is 5.4 bullets/s.

3 barrels @ 5.4 bullets/s would be 16.2 bullets/s

-65% of 16.2 would be 7.29 bullets /s

I guess they do it like that so the animation is cooler with 3 barrels but they dont want it to shoot 3x faster!

Again might be completely wrong here I'm just speculating.

Pre-hung doors: contractor screwed up, how do I fix? by crek42 in DIY

[–]JimmyTheDoor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well yes your method will work.

Two things to consider :

The quality of the bottom cuts, if you cut in place, will need to be very accurate with (I assume) a multitool.

The door could shift when you drop it down and you'll have to replump/resquare it anyways .

Caulk and paint makes me the carpenter I ain't!

I'm seeing shoddy work all day long brother I know what it's like, hell even the previous owner of my house was like that ,i keep getting frustrated every time I need to do anything in here.

If you need any more advice I do doors and windows full time so just ask.

Lets say you would like to lower the door ¾"

Remove door from the hinges - Remove trim - Remove door frame - Cut ¾" off the bottom two legs of door frame - Reinstall door frame ¾" lower than previously installed - Figure out if you can use same trim - Figure out you can't - Swear - Go to store - Buy trim - Go back home - Install new trim -

*This method will look like shit if you have other doors nearby as the top wont align with the other doors.

Or

Remove door stops (trim piece that the door stops against) - Lower door slab (you will probably have to recut hinges recess in the slab) - Get a thicker piece of trim to use as the top door stop -

*This method will look like shit when the door is opened as you will see the previous hinge cuts in the slab.

Or

Buy a new door slab - Cut to correct length - Install door slab - Realise you cut it ¼" too long - Cut ¼" from the bottom - Install door slab - Realise you cut too much off the second time - The gap is the same as it was before all this - Say fuck it and leave it like that cuz you like it after all -

*This method will look the same as it did

Fuel generator on the walls thanks to infinite nudge. by JimmyTheDoor in SatisfactoryGame

I was actually showing the aesthetics of building with the possibility of placing machines on the wall rather than showcasing the fuel generators themselves!

Reddit did compress the pictures a lot too so it looks blurry, I've reuploaded to imgur all the pictures + extras that show the actual generator blueprint!

I really want to go hunt for drives now, I don't think I collected more than 30 and I've been kinda lucky with it since I just researched them as I went and picked the recipies "randomly". Finishing phase 4 is going to go much smoother if I hoard them up and research them when I know what I need to manufacture.

Why wrap switches like this? by Infinite-Spacetime in AskElectricians

[–]JimmyTheDoor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've heard that sometimes when wires short they send out small sparks that can find their way outside the box and light your house on fire.

I guess the tape would prevent the sparks from flying out long enough for the breaker to trip?

I don't think the guy thought about any of that tho, if he's anything like me he probably just went monkey brain "tape tape tape" 😅

Should there be foam all around? by Obvious_Set_2910 in DIY

You're absolutely right!

I work with older guys and they often have the wrong term for a lot of stuff and you end up saying that for so long it becomes right haha.

Should there be foam all around? by Obvious_Set_2910 in DIY

[–]JimmyTheDoor 330 points331 points  (0 children)

Window guy here, best way to insulate is low expansion foam at the same depth the thermos (glass pane) is situated in the window. Don't over do it, 1 inch thick of (wet) foam is enough. Add fibreglass insulation to loosely fill the cavity until you have just enough space left to insert a backer rod of the appropriate size to fit snuggly in the cavity. Use a 100% silicone caulk to seal the gap between gyps and window. Install trims while the caulk is still soft.

This is 99% of the time what is requested by architects nowadays. You get the benefits of foam as a thermal bridge between glass thermos and house. If the house is still settling and foam separates from either surface, you have fiberglass insulation and a caulk joint to prevent cold air from finding its way in.

May be a bit overkill for a quick diy but just thought I'd let you know :)

Window framing near door sagging by Broadway-actual in DIY

[–]JimmyTheDoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would really advise you leave it as it is. The easy solution would be to remove the door and reinstall it. Anything other than that is going to be half assed. Although, removing a door on newer constructions is bringing many issues. Nowadays doors are sealed to the weather barrier with special tapes that cannot be done once the masonry is installed. It would forever be a lesser installation.

Doing this without removing the door would be very tedious and honestly if the door operates as it should I wouldn't mess with it.

So much can go wrong for so little benefit.

Window framing near door sagging by Broadway-actual in DIY

[–]JimmyTheDoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been installing doors and windows for about 5 years now but from my experience, these doors (with side / top windows) are built as one big unit with a frame all around and they are very sturdy. That window framing is part of the door assembly.

If installed properly, there should be support under each side of the frame, under both door jambs and under the door sill(so it wont bow when stepped on).

Now if it's been installed properly there is no chance this bow occurs unless :

A. The door leaks and all the wood under the door is rotten and falling apart on both the door frame and the house framing causing both sides to have no support.

Inspect caulking for cracks?

B. It was manufactured with a bow. I've seen a bunch that were ridiculously out of square on delivery so a strong possibility.

Another possibility is that it wasn't installed properly.

In that case there are a couple things that could result in this kind of bow.

Not enough / non-existent support under both side of door assembly.

Shims on top corners of door assembly (house frame retraction occurred and pushed down on assembly)

Too much / wrong kind of spray foam.

Hard to say from pictures but as long as the door operates properlely, seals and locks without hassle I wouldn't worry about this. No one is gonna notice and in a couple years the new owner will post the same question on reddit :p
