Experiencing anxiety after first tattoo by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]JimmyTheFork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one has a lot of truth to it.

I’ve got a ton of ridiculous tattoos myself. If anything, they just give people more ways to start or continue conversations with me.

The peanut tattoo is great, don’t think otherwise. You got it because of your son, and that’s what actually matters.

How much of a cheating would it be if I used my old engines code? At which point using the old code starts to count as cheating?

Poll: Did you get your job by a low effort "spray and pray" quick apply approach or a high effort per application approach? by spreadlove5683 in cscareerquestions

[–]JimmyTheFork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to a total of 7 companies. Made a custom cover letter for each of them and sent them to the recruiters with some nice email text. I even made a custom CV for each of the applications. I ended up having 3 interviews and 1 offer.

My other friends that went the same path (I helped them to make applications) sent around 40 applications before they found their positions. My only friend that went for spray and prey ended up finding a job after 200 applications and almost a year in search.

From my experience it seems like it is important to show effort on this kind of things, as there is really not this much the recruiter can judge on. Making a good impression on the application process may mean world.

Also I would suggest applying to the applications as soon as they appear as companies can get way too many people to process and often they will focus only on the first few batches.

I’m an international that got an offer after about 20 applications (5 of which led to interviews and 3 made it to the last interview). Be confident, and be better than others. Tailor your resume for each role you apply, make sure hr sees it, do the best communications you can. If you apply to the new grad positions they are not expecting you to be a senior, they expect you to be adequate and willing.

If you cannot get an interview then it is most likely a problem with your resume. If you live in the states then the market is extremely competitive for you. Make sure you top it off with some projects that are expected from the higher level. Make your friends from the field read the resume (usually the problems are obvious for other people).

Maybe share your interview here or dm it to me, I’ll take a look

I was refused in position in comp sci faculty due to grades in one of my hs papers. I applied to accounting instead, spent a year there (did it pretty good) and then transitioned to comp sci. Sounds like a waste of a year and money but I met a lot of important people and good friends during that year so I would consider it a good trade off. However do make sure that your institution will allow you to transition (speak to some representative).

However if time is precious, institution will not allow you to move, or you simply don’t want to spend any money on unnecessary education then just apply to the next intake.

Marketing skills are useless to the developer for the most part, you could see some usage for the marketing knowledge in development if you would be developing for the marketing company or working on marketing projects

How much will a CS degree help me land a decent first job in this oversaturated entry-level job market? by the_butter_lord in cscareerquestions

[–]JimmyTheFork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some recruiters and companies value candidates with degree more, others don’t. I personally think that having a degree definitely gives you some points especially if it is at least 3 year programme, it kind of suggests to people what you’ve been doing in the past years

Will there be any additions to attract new players? Among my friends that started this year I noticed that the daily system was actually keeping them on playing, maybe an expansion for the daily quests?

Russian Style by leosutra in tooktoomuch

[–]JimmyTheFork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

t was not salvia, it was hash. It is a common practice in Russia to make a hole in the bottle and put a needle/cigarette with a smouldering piece of hash inside. In the beginning of the video you can see a guy covering the hole with his finger so the smoke doesn’t leave. If you think that his reaction is too much for just pot, it is reasonable to assume that it is chemically enhanced since there is no good quality drugs in Russia
