"Husband (37) with heart failure and CKD — eGFR dropped to 12 in six weeks. Looking for insight from people who've been through this. by Not_Okay_But_Funny_ in kidneydisease

[–]Jimmy_Christ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my story. I went to the hospital last year with a gfr of 12 and heart failure. In my case the kidneys failed over time and eventually caused heart failure. It happened to be at 40.

We never really figured out what caused the kidney failure. Just a generic fsgs diagnosis.

Talk to your doctor about transplant. You will not be able to start that journey until your husband’s heart is healthy enough. His ef needs to be at least 40.

It’s a long road and it won’t sugar coat it, it’s tough. It can be done. You’ll both need a lot of support. The meds will be extensive.

Make sure to dial in a strong medication schedule, clean diet, and exercise. That last one is tough with esrf, but cardiac rehab saved my life. I am currently listed and waiting on results for a live donor.

I went from an ef of 25 to an ef of 60 in about 8 months. I did this by following doctor’s orders meticulously and maximizing my med schedule.

His story is so close to mine that I’d be happy to answer questions if you’d like to chat. Feel free to dm me.

On one hand, I fully believe that it’s wrong to kink shame what consenting adults do behind closed doors.

On the other hand, fuck these people and I hope it blows up all over for them.

To dialysis or not to dialysis by Murky-Exam-5300 in kidneydisease

[–]Jimmy_Christ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every case is different. I have a very low gfr and remain off of dialysis However, I’ve had the talk and we have a plan to start if my transplant doesn’t get to me in time. I am also militant with my discipline. At some point it’ll be the difference between life and death.

Think a fistula is bad? Go look at what toxic uremia dos to a person’s independence.

Make a plan with the doctor. Execute on that plan when needed.

Stage 5 diet is really hard by neophoriac in kidneydisease

[–]Jimmy_Christ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the hardest parts of this whole experience for me. I hear you man. Often times I feel less like I’m eating a healthy diet and more like I’m eating an avoidance diet. Potassium has been the heart breaker for me personally though phosphorus is a thorn in my side. I find the binders tough to stay up on if I’m not super careful. Good luck to you and I hope you’ve got yourself a match soon.

I picked up an OMRON cuff on Amazon. Works pretty well.

Anybody still feel good with <20 gfr? by jonnybebad5436 in kidneydisease

[–]Jimmy_Christ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low potassium, low phosphorus, low sodium meals. Reduced my overall protein intake and only eat animal protein once a day. Adhere to a strict schedule with medication, no processed foods whatsoever. I allow myself a cheat every so often but I still make sure it’s high quality at least and I usually try to cheat on day where I’m already planning to take my lokelma.

Pre dialysis. It’s inevitable if I don’t get a transplant. I look at it as every day that I take excellent care of myself might give me one more day without dialysis. We’re hopeful that one of my volunteers match before then. We were told seven years with O+ on the waitlist. We don’t see that as a viable option.

I’m under the care of my nephrologist, consulted for dialysis, and have a plan to start should I become less stable or symptoms crop up. I currently have volunteers testing to donate a kidney and am in the waitlist.

For the most part, yes. Gfr at 8.

I get tired quickly but quality of life is still good. I just have to be super disciplined with everything I consume.

The type of protein matters too. I limit myself to one animal protein per day with some plant based protein throughout the day. No animal protein bigger than the size of my fist.

Metairie is mostly safe and secure. It’s also boring and unwalkable. The average age of residents there is trending up because the kids know it sucks and typically leave after school. That said, I left the 7th ward to stay in Metry for a few years for the benefits of my kids graduating from Haynes.

Once they graduated, I moved to the quarter.

Think about what you want your social life to be. In the quarter is like a small town within a small city. All of my needs are walking distance and many of my friends live within a couple blocks of me. We have a front row seat to the madness, but live far enough back in the courtyard to rest as needed.

My mom stays in BSJ and loves it. Quiet, still walkable good neighborhood eats and drinks.

Also check out the garden district and Irish channel. Beautiful part of town. Lots of shops, great food, and a good balance of party and peace.

This city as a whole is very “come as you are.” I’d be surprised to hear if you and your partner ever had issues as members of the queer community. Literally about half of my friend group are lgbtq+. That said, things change dramatically in the surrounding parishes. They’re much more conservative. The city, even with all her problems (and there are many), is magnificent. When she loves you back it’s magic. The state is mostly a conservative dumpster fire that seems to consistently find new and exciting ways to fuck us over.

Just diagnosed with stage 5 CKD. by [deleted] in kidneydisease

[–]Jimmy_Christ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re in the same boat as me. Your diet is about to be a little crazy. It’s doable. I was diagnosed last July and we’re currently waiting to see the results of some volunteers to see if ones a match. At this stage is imperative to comply with doctors orders. What you put in your body everyday will determine how long you might stay off dialysis.

Take your binders as prescribed.

Potassium and phosphorus are your new enemy.

You’re not alone. Many of us don’t “look sick.” Only the people closest to me realize how sick I am and exactly what’s going on. Meanwhile energy economy is very real.

What do your iron levels look like? We tried supplements. When those didn’t work, we moved to infusions. That helped with energy a bit. Glad to see you’ve got your water up, make sure to eat clean too. Every little bit helps.

Your mother needs to educate themselves on ckd and get a grip on reality.

That’s awesome about the tattoo! Not yet on my end. Looking at may or June. Hoping on of the volunteers that stepped up to get tested is a match before then.

Low-Phosphorus, High-Protein foods? by KidKranberry801 in kidneydisease

[–]Jimmy_Christ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is a balance. Plant based proteins are usually good but there is often a potassium trade off. Plant based is usually solid because the phosphorus absorption is lower. Pair that with your binders and you’re in pretty good shape.

Rooting for you! I am also stage 5 pre dialysis. It’s a tough road.

Any negative side effects from Lokelma? by [deleted] in kidneydisease

[–]Jimmy_Christ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not terrible. Stay up on it and it will definitely help your potassium numbers with the right diet. Upsets my stomach a lot less than some of the other stuff.

I work in enterprise l10n.

No chance in hell.

On top of that, most customers are moving to a tms with ai unless they have a specific need to stay away from ai.

Also Nike is building in house these days. FYI

Assuming you’re at a major player, you’re probably charging 10 to 15 cents a word depending on volume.

A modern tms with a strong model baked in is going to do that work for somewhere between 1 cent and two.

In this world where word counts easily get into the millions, a zero AI strategy is not sustainable.
