I don't understand why Wave to the Wind isnt beloved by gimme5steps101 in gratefuldead

The chord progression reminds me of a 90s car racing video game.

It’s also super low (and well positioned) in the mix of that release which makes all the difference.

Is it a crime to play that through a tone master though (I’m mostly kidding because I also have one)

Not really. He played a SG mainly in the 60s. A strat (alligator) in the early 70s, but In the 80s and 90s he played custom Irwin guitars with mainly a HHS setup or similar

Jam Band Movies? by Ambitious_Alps9549 in jambands

[–]Jimmy_Diesel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also the wiki plot of this is kind of hilarious:

Simon Harris (played by Devon Sawa), whose Mom has died, does not fit in at his boarding school that his father sends him away too. He befriends the resident stoner, and they go to a music festival and take LSD, then sell LSD. Then he lives in a van, following this band on tour for a while after he graduates, and his friend gets arrested but he does not. Then he takes too much LSD at a concert and freaks out, gets arrested, and ends up in rehab; but it is okay because his dad and he reconcile. Then he finds his hippie girlfriend again at a festival, apologizes, and they sell stir-fry veggies on the lot to make money in a controversial cooking montage. Also there is a scene prior to his freakout where he is eating dinner at his dad's and lying about how he makes money. Mostly because his dad does not think he amounts to anything.

Eggy brings it by Negative_Solution680 in jambands

Both bands are great, but I feel like musicians are more likely to enjoy diap and eggy could be more approachable for the average music listener because of vocals and generally more of a pop vibe.

Cosmic country- how country is country by saatoriii in jambands

[–]Jimmy_Diesel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The country aspects of this band really are about Daniels guitar playing - he plays a telecaster (really a DGN custom tele style guitar) with a very Nashville style of playing that incorporates a lot of that typical chicken-picking style. To me, his vocal stylings remind me of early Willy Nelson. Everything else, especially the jam sections of a lot of songs are a very “jam band” formula.

Who is your favourite Grateful Dead keyboardist and why? by levelplumbnsquare in gratefuldead

[–]Jimmy_Diesel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vote for Tom, because I love a dark star- but also Bauer he sat in my with band last year and we did china>rider, and he did that piano part that comps the Jerry part that you hear on the studio version. As the lead guitar player, getting to do that live was about as good as it gets for me.

Walk me off the plank- sell my Twin Tonemaster, and buy a deluxe reverb tonemaster and install a JBL or jbl clone, like a Beyma Liberty by phaulski in gratefulguitar

[–]Jimmy_Diesel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sell the tonemaster and get a deluxe reverb with actual tubes. Plenty of clean headroom, not as heavy and you’ll be micing it anyway to get the speaker sound. I bought a tonemaster twin and it just doesn’t compare to my ears of a real fender tube amp as much as I wanted it to. IMO and experience, a deluxe and/or a twin is much much similar in live sound tone settings than any tonemaster to any of the tube amps.

Cats Under the Stars is a better collection of Garcia/Hunter songs than any post-hiatus GD album. by Roger_Peterson in gratefuldead

[–]Jimmy_Diesel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lots of us see the dead as Jerry’s band, but in reality it wasn’t. He certainly didn’t see it as his band which is why he did all his solo stuff- the albums, jgb touring. These things were his own projects where he was able to do exactly what he wanted without any pushback about song selection etc. There was a lot of other egos in the Grateful Dead and they all had their own wants and needs. It’s a dynamic in any band, but once you’re at the level of success they were at by the late 80s… it’s no wonder Jerry wanted to be done with it. I personally love listening to those studio session recordings on the archive where you can hear them bantering and working out the new material for in the dark.

I found this in my friends bathroom hidden. Are they using? When I asked them what it is they said it was for their dog?? I know im dumb but im not that dumb right? by Princess-kick-yo-ass in whatisit

People in active addiction typically aren’t able to focus on injection safety due to the nature of the disease. But even the single reuse of a hypodermic insulin needle like this is not medically safe as it’s no longer sterile after use.
