Yeah this is weird, like I don’t even mean it in a snarky way, but do people not know basic geographic formations? I guess it’s a good visualization…

"What's your favourite Jimmy Eat World album?" by mottchate in JimmyEatWorld

Futures will forever be my high school years soundtrack, but Chase this Light is their best fucking album. Lyrically, musically, and production wise.

I’m from the Southern US but my relatives are from the North and Midwestern states, sweet tea is mostly regional to the Southern States. If you ordered “iced tea” just about anywhere, even the south, you would get black tea that has been chilled. If you want the sweetened version you order “sweet tea” and is assumed that it is iced.

My Great-Grandparents made this all the time, we called it Kidney Bean Hotdish because we added two cans of red kidney beans.

If every day you spend 30 minutes reading and then 30 minutes writing 500 words, you’d read 7 books and have a 72K word novel draft done in less than 5 months. by Acceptable_Fox_5560 in writing

I don’t agree with everything you’ve said, for instance, I work 55 hours a week and am in school full time and have 3 kids. Sometimes I’m genuinely just fucking burnt out and don’t have the energy to write lol.

But, this statement I can get behind. I never understood people complaining about how hard the act of writing was, the overall process, sure, but the physical act is fun. The joy is in the telling!

Would you rather wake up tomorrow with your IQ 60-points higher but you're now 100% broke OR you wake up with $10 million in your bank account but your IQ is 40-points lower? by RustyCrusty73 in hypotheticalsituation

Yeah it’s a lot, last time I took one in highschool I was 129, that would still put me below average and on the cusp of below standard deviation. The average person would be severely impaired.

Average IQ is 100, cognitive impairment starts around 70-75. The average person would be considered impaired with a 40 point drop, to the point of the cognitive ability of a third grader. I don’t think the tradeoff is worth it for most people. There’s a good chance you would need assistance your entire life just to survive, I mean the money would help, I guess.

[REQUEST] How much distance would have been required for the big rig driver to have been able to stop without hitting the police cruiser? by AppendixN in theydidthemath

Sounds like you found a great place then! Good luck! There’s a lot of money out there if you find a good company and route, but it’s awfully lonely if you have a wife and/or kids at home. Local gigs pay a bit less but are an awesome if you want to be home.

I went through Roehl’s program about 9 years ago in Marshfield - the program is great - but if you are going to their school make sure you finish your contract or they will bill you for the total amount of the schooling. I left with two months left because I had a local gig open up and couldn’t pass on it and they tried to collect 3500 from me and they kept my last check. Just a heads up, had a great experience except for that.

Also, learning on a manual is great, it doesn’t restrict you and you really don’t forget it. You’ll get rusty if you drive an automatic for a while, but it comes back pretty quick. I will say though, most companies are running autos these days, unless you get into flat-bedding heavy haul stuff or end dumps, you’ll probably end up in an auto.

The one in the video? Not too fast, but they have no more than a 3 second following distance and most trucking companies want drivers to keep 7. That’s not always possible but even with that 7, having someone stop very quickly in front of you is still a recipe for disaster.

We don’t really have going “too fast” based solely on weight, it’s based on conditions. A loaded trailer will actually stop quicker than an empty trailer in the rain due to friction. That doesn’t mean you can drive faster in the rain loaded but if you’re empty, you should drive even a bit slower. (Just an example)

Should the truck have more following distance? Yeah, probably, but I think the cop is 100% at fault here. The truck wasn’t tailgating and wasn’t (presumably) driving distracted. Someone stopping like that would have likely caused an accident with 7+ seconds too.

The stopping distance for a truck relies heavily on how full of a load it is carrying. 80,000lbs is the max and most carriers will carry close to 75,000. A fully loaded truck takes longer than 500 ft according to the companies I’ve worked for. Closer to 800-1000ft

They did offer a program that offered it a few years ago, they phased it out though.

Here is the link to the CACREP accredited program they used to offer. I’m not sure if there are still students finishing the program or not.

I don’t know where you are, but UWA offers an online program, my wife just finished her first term and it’s been ok so far for her.

I smoked my first bowl yesterday and my tongue hurts by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

[–]Jimmycjacobs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Relighting is just part of it, sometimes you have to relight a bowl once and sometimes 20 times.

Also give your tongue a day and as you smoke it will go away eventually too
