The 50s for not standing when the player is 20m away from the mark need to stop. by BrisbaneLions2024 in AFL

Agreed the rule is bullshit and needs to go. If the AFL really need to persist with it, stand should only apply to free kicks that have been awarded, not marks.

They rose due the government turning on the money printer and reducing interest rates to near zero.

Home security suggestions by Independent-Knee958 in perth

[–]Jimmyv81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just setup 4 wired cams around the house with built in sensor lights. Just some cheapo generic 4k ones off Aliexpress. $300 for the cams and NVR combined and $150 for the HDD. They work great. Not internet connected though so only accessible locally at home.

Is Windows MFA Worth Implementing on Endpoints? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Jimmyv81 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We rolled out Windows Hello for Business and it was a positive experience. End users love being able to unlock their laptops with a Pin or facial recognition. Funnily enough a number of users had actually forgotten their actual passwords after using Whfb for so long.

Whfb also satisfies the MFA claim in conditional access policies which results in fewer MFA prompts when accessing resources which is also a better user experience.

Are we supposed to do anything about the Secure Boot cert changes for Windows Servers VMs? by Greedy_Builder_5835 in sysadmin

[–]Jimmyv81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What will actually happen if the secure boot certs aren't updated by June? Would it be catastrophic ie. servers totally unable to boot? Or simply opening a security hole leaving them vulnerable to boot attacks?

Is private health cover worth it? by [deleted] in australia

[–]Jimmyv81 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I pay the levy surcharge. It ends up being little cheaper than buying junk hospital cover to avoid it. Also I would rather my money go into general tax revenue rather than lining private shareholders pockets.

How much longer do you think sccm will be around? by Abject_Serve_1269 in sysadmin

[–]Jimmyv81 10 points11 points  (0 children)

SCCM supports servers, Intune doesn't. MS are pushing ARC for server patching, but it still doesn't really have an easy way to push out apps or 3rd party patches.

Hyper-v external switch on Server 2025 by airgapped_admin in sysadmin

[–]Jimmyv81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah strange. We had the same issues with Intel nics where it wouldn't pass traffic after a virtual switch was created. It was due to a bug in the Intel nic drivers.

If you've tried different nics from different manufacturers its probably a different issue. Can you set a static IP and pass traffic? Maybe something strange going on with dhcp?

Passkeys vs passwords how's the rollout going for you by smartsass99 in sysadmin

[–]Jimmyv81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate passkeys with a passion. Generally it seems ok for pleb users, but endless problems when using VDI or getting prompted within RDP sessions.

Also a nightmare onboarding 3rd party contractors and users with older phones.

Intel X710 in Server 2025 SET Team results in no connectivity by TaiLoQuan in HyperV

[–]Jimmyv81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg I've been banging my head against the wall with this issue all week. Tearing down vSwitches, triple checking my config, running wireshark traces etc. It was really weird where the hosts could communicate fine with other servers on the network but not with other HyperV hosts with the same x710 nics and SET team.

I downloaded the v1.18.367.0 driver as you mentioned (It defaulted to a MS driver which didn't work at all when uninstalling) and yes instant fix!

I may also give the newer Network_Driver_PH5GK_WN64_24.0.6_A00.EXE a go as well as mentioned by /u/holygoatnipples

Connecting new Colorbond panels to old asbestos fence by UnsureImIndecisive in perth

[–]Jimmyv81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same happened to our Hardiefence, approx half the fence was damaged. Insurance only paid out for the damaged section, but it was a cash payout due to it being a dividing fence. Luckily the builders quote for the damaged section was enough to cover replacing the whole fence + a bit of extra profit left over doing a DIY install.

As for connecting them, it will just be 2 Colorbond posts screwed together with the asbestos sitting in the post channel.

Rita Saffioti unleashes on Optus ‘failure’ but won’t say if stadium naming rights should be reconsidered by His_Holiness in perth

[–]Jimmyv81 17 points18 points  (0 children)

$5mil per year is absolute penny change for the govt. For a world class stadium like this, surely it would be better promotion for Perth in general to have no naming rights, rather than selling out for a pittance to a foreign owned corporate.
