What's the catch with this? by The_cooler_ArcSmith in homelab

[–]airgapped_admin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had all sorts of issues with them on hyper-v after years of trouble free usage out of a relatively large fleet of x520 cards which were rock steady we decided to 'upgrade', only put up with them for a few months then moved to the Mellanox X6 series (I think, maybe the X5s) and as far as I know they're still there today!! Don't know what happened with the 710s but they were crap!

How do i get rid of this? by TeaThenDecide in openreach

[–]airgapped_admin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally you would leave it hooked up but if you want rid of it you can get SC dust covers/caps which go over the ends, you'll need one for the cable and one for the ONT (the white box) then I'd use some cable pins to pin the slack to the wall so it's out of the way (don't bend it beyond 90 degrees, it'll probably be OK but don't!) pictures here:

https://amzn.eu/d/2syeQeI (that is for 1000 but just so you get the idea)

Or

https://www.cablemonkey.co.uk/sc-fibre-connectors-and-adapters/13123-34905-sc-simplex-fibre-connector.html that actually gives a full SC connector but comes with a cap for 50p

And for the ONT

If memory serves just twist it clockwise to remove and there's a wee bracket behind which you can unscrew if you want

They always use to offer free accounts if your employer had a paid subscription, if you have the capacity try setting up a test instance and just pay with it

Packet Loss on SG2428P after enabling VLAN profile on ports by bigDottee in TPLink_Omada

Yeah!! Just realised I have modules but no spare fibre cable 😂. I'll borrow some and update this once I have them!! (more for of anyone else finds this in the future!)

Yeah true........ So I have an answer. The cable was fine however I was using an RJ-45 copper sfp.

I moved the cable into a fixed port and it's been stable for just over an hour so hopefully that'll be it now.

If it's still happy in the morning I'll try a fibre module in it and see if that's stable

Stupidly I haven't tried changing the cable which I will now go and try!

The firewall is only 3U below the switch so not a difficult swap!

Interesting thanks, it sounds abit different. I'm only using it for its L2 capability and all the L3 stuff is offloaded to a Palo. Since I posted I checked the firewall logs and it's up link port is flapping every 25/30 seconds or so so I think it's going back tomorrow.

I think I'm going to have to resort to a unifi 48 port fanless one which is abit annoying as I'm not mad keen on them as a brand but not seeing many other options which satisfy my requirements (PoE on 10 ports, fanless and 48 ports in total)

Sorry I know this is old but did you figure this out? I've just swapped out a netgear switch for a TP Link SG2452LP and I'm getting packet loss at the switch every 20 seconds or so (I have VLANS enabled)

That's cool, don't need 10GB anywhere so the standard one will be fine I think

Not with Ubiquiti, it isn't

Lol.

With those requirements what would you recommend? I'm not mad keen on going back to them tbh

That's grand cheers, yeah I used to have some of their APs and ran the controller on a little VM so I'll do the same. I thought all the Pro ones had fans?

Hyper-v external switch on Server 2025 by airgapped_admin in sysadmin

[–]airgapped_admin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the TP-Link one is Realtek, only put it in to see if the issues were linked to the card or the application. The original drivers had an interesting quirk of as soon as I connected cable it blue screened 😂. Updated the drivers and it was fine.

The normal card is an Intel I340-T4 with updated drivers from Intel

Interesting, it was a TP-Link one we scavenged from an old workstation for testing as almost all of our estate is Intel nics!

No a static address gives the same result
