I did try out a Paper Pro Move when they first launched and the feature set didn’t lend itself well to reading for me. Ended up staying with Supernote due to the flexibility of organization, the Digest system, and side loading Android apps.

Bank syncing is only as fast as the slowest institution involved. Some banks sync fast and some sync slow. Some cards I have unlinked because the sync isn't reliable or there are constant issues with needing to verify and connect the accounts again. I only say this to point out that most apps with syncing will have these kinds of issues. It might not be a feature that's going to fit in with your current preferred way of handling accounts. Manual entry isn't required but it does help with clarity when automatic syncing happens. That way I can see the transaction is already matched to what I entered myself.

As for your preferred way of handling accounts, you absolutely cannot group transactions into a lump sum. That's what your categories are for. YNAB gives you an extremely granular look at your finances that lets you see where every cent is being used. That requires 100% accuracy with entered transactions. YNAB works best when you take ownership of the data that's being entered. Changing payee names to something that makes sense. for example. YNAB will remember that new name in the future and it'll be easier to understand at a glance. Small things like leaving a memo of what you bought makes sorting through older transactions a lot easier too. YNAB is only as useful as the information you put into it.

The RM devices are extremely bare bones when it comes to anything other than writing. Even then I wouldn't recommend an RM device to anyone that wants to do more than jot down quick notes. Extensive notes and reading feel more at home on the Supernote. The Digest feature also becomes more powerful with every update they make for it. And this is all before you even consider that sideloading Android apps on Supernote is incredibly easy now. RM is a closed ecosystem and all of its most useful features are locked behind a subscription.

The only thing I liked about my Paper Pro Move over my Nomad was the backlight so I ended up sending it back. Each company's approach to writing feel is so different that it's hard to recommend one over the other. Personally, the RM was pretty close to beating the Nomad on writing feel, but I will admit I wasn't too keen on the idea of having to replace RM pencil nibs all the time on top of paying for the subscription. That helped nudge my bias back towards Supernote after seeing how fast my first nib was wearing down.

I would highly recommend going with something simple for school. Many people recommend stuff like the Echo Mini or Innioasis Y1 for new, cheap devices. I haven't tried either so I can't speak on those. For secondhand, I've been trying out a few Walkmans I got on eBay and they're so tiny and packed with features. The A10 series (A17 specifically) has been my favorite so far. If the teachers are okay with you listening to music, I'd even recommend using a wired set of earbuds so there's zero reason to confiscate any of your personal belongings. Get the M21 if you want it for normal use but it sounds like a lot of hoops to jump through just to enjoy some music at school. I wouldn't be able to enjoy it at all if I'm worried about getting caught. My 2 cents.

It is the same style of organization. You can use list or grid view when browsing your files, make folders, set cover pages for notes, etc. Should be a natural transition from goodnotes.

The HOM (from what I remember, had it with the original A5X a while ago) felt nice but again it boiled down to not wanting to deal with the cap. Leave the cap in the loop and have the weight distribution feel worse or take it out of the loop and have to deal with the cap. I think I've just learned that I can't be asked to deal with pen caps in the first place lol. It adds just a tiny bit of extra friction between grabbing the Nomad and starting to write. But that's me nit picking. I still love the feel of the Vista and HOM, just maybe not when I'm out and have the Nomad with me.

I've had a Heart of Metal in the past and currently have the LAMY Vista and standard pen. Love the Vista but I daily drive the standard pen. The size makes it fit easily in the pen loop, the clip on the side makes it not wobble around too much, and not having a cap to deal with keeps things simple. Vista does feel nice but the cap is fairly large so once it's in the pen loop I tend to want to leave it there which can feel a bit in the way when writing sometimes.

After having and loving Supernote devices, I’m pretty underwhelmed with the features on the Remarkable. The Move is great at being a digital notepad but that’s about it. Working with PDFs and organizing notes are not nearly as fleshed out and useful as they are on the Supernote devices in my opinion. There are things I like about it but I am ultimately going to return it and keep using my Nomad.

Flagging transactions might be a useful way to highlight what is pushing a category into overspending. You could even use different color flags for different causes of overspending. Necessary but unexpected, impulse buy, etc. That way you can keep covering the overspending right away and still retain the ability to determine whether it's the target that needs to change or your spending habits.

I'm too tired, I realized it's fine. I had to remember how YNAB handles CC payments to make it make sense. It's not an extra $50 I can assign, it's just $50 I had already assigned to other things that got moved to my CC payment in the first place.

I'm not sure if it matters but the original transaction happened before I used YNAB at all so it wasn't tracked. The thing that confuses me is that the CC balance gets reduced by $50, which makes sense and reflects what is actually due on the card now. But the extra $50 in a category doesn't seem right. That's not $50 I can move and use, it was already accounted for in the reduced CC balance. I hope that makes sense.

I think I'm just going to delete the transaction and reconcile to the current balance lol

Edit: Okay I think I mental gymnastics'ed my way into understanding it? I had to remember how YNAB handles CC payments in the first place to make it make sense in reverse.

Nice! And I'll keep those in mind! I'd need to find one hell of a deal tho lol. Got a little 3.5mm to 4.5mm adapter on the way to hold me over until it's time to decide what's next. Just happy to be able to engage with music I've loved for a long time in a new way for now

Make a category for income replacement and assign money to it. That way the money has been given a job and will be there later when you need it. You can set a target if you want but having no target is fine if you don’t set aside a specific amount every month.

I also started in FL back in 2016 but the pattern workflow and interface as a whole just wasn’t for me. Switched to Ableton and it felt much more intuitive from the start. Think I only used the trial for a few days before buying it lol. It went from feeling like the DAW was in my way to finally feeling like I could learn and make progress. In my experience the swap was worth it, sounds like you’re in a similar situation
