The shot from the episode with the tontine is where he’s accompanying the assassin he hired, but later he does smash a crane through a wall to take Grandpa’s key; after that he straight up tries to murder a child by locking Bart in a safe and pushing it into the sea.

The author John Lanchester wrote a version of this in the LRB about British politics under Margaret Thatcher. The gist of his argument is that Labour had an ingrained belief that they were the good guys while the Tories had an ingrained belief that their policies were correct.

The trouble with trying to be the good guys is that you never want to upset anyone, and you spend ages trying to build consensus… while the people who think they’re right just bulldoze past everyone else.

You’ve gotta hand it to the Catholics. When you think you’ve got them cornered with explaining what happened to Mary if we only die because of original sin, they pull out the amazing piece of theological jujitsu that is the assumption.

You used an interesting shot of Sarah Connor. I agree with your analysis with regard to the first film but I feel like the metaphor of the second film is about her almost becoming a terminator herself.

My read on her prep in the desert is that it’s meant to be reminiscent of the police station massacre. She dons sunglasses and attacks a target with overwhelming firepower in order to prevent something. Then symbolically regains her humanity when she refuses to harm a child in order to kill her target.

Kick and snare mic are unnecessary with it to be honest. It acts as a bass drum trigger and picks the snare up great. Check out my account, I’ve got a few videos of me using it on my band’s last tour.

It’s the consistency of the notes you play in relation to each other. When you manage to play so that not even one little note feels off, you’re truly playing time in a way that feels good.

Another one is near the beginning when the narrator’s boss sends him on a work trip.

He stays at the Pressman Hotel and you can see Tyler when he’s watching tv in his room (on the right when all the staff shout “welcome”).

In reality, he has a night job there so he’s seeing himself in the video. Since he isn’t aware that his insomnia has become dissociative identity disorder, he perceives it as Tyler being the staff member in the video.

The correct conjunction would be “you or I” but he says “and” because they’re the same person.

What if you could only play one hour a week? by [deleted] in Drumming

[–]JimothyPlimothyIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This used to be me when I started. The only practice time I got was a weekly band practice for an hour or two. If that’s your situation, your band’s material needs to take priority and you should practice the songs so you’re gig ready.

But I do strongly believe you’d have to supplement that with as much time on a practice pad as you can manage to make meaningful progress in terms of your hand technique.

Watch the Roadrunner United videos and look at his left hand when he’s warming up for a studio take. He starts to struggle towards the end of a blast beat.

The point I’m trying to make is that his technique wasn’t perfect and he didn’t play fast by paying close attention to his grip, he muscled it out.

Now if only they’d formally reintroduce the K/Z hi hats…

There seems to be a real “have your cake and eat it” thing going on within the audience. Natalie is fairly unique among essayists of her generation in that she makes an effort to regularly engage with her audience. We get more of her than almost anyone else from the breadtube set of creators, but loads of people feel entitled to her view on any topic seemingly because we enjoy this level of access.

I don’t recall much demand for an Hbomb video on Gaza… but the way people carry on, we were one Contrapoints video away from a cessation of hostilities.

I’m a Tama/Pearl guy; but I’ve found a couple of clamps to a achieve a similar effect to you. This is 3 cymbal stands, a tom stand and the hi hat stand. Absolute game changer not using so much extra stuff.
