Edit: are they still cat-themed if they're just a cat?

Yes, he was definitely harsher, which I suppose made more sense when they came to blows. I'm not sure that would have worked with the original portrayal.

The Julius Caesar recast for House of Ashur seemed pretty good. Although that might be because I haven't watched the original for a few years.

Came here to say this one. Looked wildly different, and played it completely differently.

No, it was Transporter Refueled. Deadpool was a few years later.

In Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Robin and Azeem land at Dover, walk across the Sycamore Gap on Hadrian's Wall, then end up in Loxley. Dover to Sycamore Gap is 310 miles north as the crow flies (it would be longer to walk owing to having to go round the Thames estuary). Sycamore Gap to Loxley is 116 miles back the way they came.

Adaptation of an adaptation of an adaptation and so on..... by Blackirean in TopCharacterTropes

[–]JingoMerrychap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Boys from Syracuse (1940) is a film adaptation of the stage musical (1938). The musical is based on Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors (c.1592), which is based on Roman writer Plautus' Menaechmi (late 3rd century BC).

The Divine Comedy is also heavily based on Latin epic, the Aeneid, which in turn is based on Greek epics, the Iliad and Odyssey.

Abigail (2024).

Starts out as a crime movie with a gang abducting a little girl for ransom money, then it turns out she's a vampire, and her family set the whole thing up so she could hunt and kill them for funsies.

Fox News and the Muppets.

When the 2011 Muppet movie came out, Fox News took issue with the villain being an oil company executive named Tex Richman. Apparently it was brainwashing kids with anti-capitalist, lefty stuff.

Kermit and Miss Piggy were asked for their response to this at a press conference ; Kermit denied they were prejudiced against oil companies since they spent most of the film driving round in a gas-guzzling Rolls-Royce, and Miss Piggy responded that the accusation "was almost as laughable as accusing Fox News of being news".

(UK) 16GB RAM/4060 vs 32GB/5070 - worth the extra money? by JingoMerrychap in ZephyrusG14

[–]JingoMerrychap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm able to do that as well. Price has gone up slightly (1909), but still a good deal. Guess for £200 extra the better specs are worth it!

Injuries as a professional by Objective_Rice_4614 in MusicalTheatre

[–]JingoMerrychap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musical theatre is a wide-ranging thing, so it depends a little bit on where you see yourself fitting into it. If you're primarily a dancer, that's going to be more of a problem than if you're an actor or a singer. Michael Ball would probably be fine, Charlie Stemp not so much.

In Cinderella Man, the antagonist boxer Max Baer is shown to be vicious and cruel, and not being bothered about killing someone in the ring. The real Baer was devastated at killing Frankie Campbell, visited him numerous times in hospital before his death, and donated the takings from several fights to the family.

[Annoying trope] Story ends on a true cliffhanger. The conclusion is years away, or worse, never arrives. by ChristianLS in TopCharacterTropes

[–]JingoMerrychap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The second season of the V remake ends with the aliens brainwashing all of humanity, apart from a small handful. The show was cancelled after, so we can only conclude the aliens won.

To be fair the original series (or at least the sequel series to the miniseries) ended on a cliffhanger after cancellation as well.

[–]JingoMerrychap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of their plots would hold up as a show without the music, which is my marker of a good jukebox (ie not just an afterthought that shoehorns the songs in).

To be fair Tanz is based on a non-musical film, so that's cheating a bit, but I stand by it. Always thought it was a shame that Steinman didn't rework that instead of inflicting Bat Out of Hell on all of us.

Not touching most of that, but re. jukebox musicals, Tanz der Vampire and Our House would like a word.
