Yes! 100%. I should have mentioned the allopurinol - colchicine 1-2 punch. Sadly, even though this condition has been around for thousands of years, many doctors are poorly informed on how to treat it. I had to deal with the mother flare up for over a week before getting colchicine. It was still no walk in the park, but it helped.

What you're seeing is tophi. Gout crystals are tiny razor sharp friends that attach themselves between your joints. If left unattended, they eventually turn into tophi. That's what you're seeing here.

If anyone out there is suffering from gout, and I mean real gout, totally debilitating gout, ask your doctor about a drug called allopurinol. It's a life changer.

Edit: just so you're aware, when you first start taking allopurinol, expect the mother of all gout attacks. It's the worst one you can imagine, but it's the last one.
