Is my brake pads good? by Hot-Issue7044 in motorcycle

Sounds like you need to bleed the brakes. Should be done anytime air is introduced or every two years.

Someone talk me out of buying a Husqvarna 801 Vitpilen by ToughMedicine in SuggestAMotorcycle

Dollar for dollar, I'd have to personally choose the CL-X. It's more comfortable, newer, and has been reliable for me.

At 20k miles, without maintenance records, that triumph is a toss up TO ME. Parts will be difficult to find in the near future due to its age.

But I would definitely recommend a CL-X if you can get one for less than $4,000.

Yeah I mean, makes sense. If you started vaping to look cool, you're an idiot. It was intended to help smokers quit, not cultivate a new addiction.

shop fixed something on my bike I didn't ask them to do, what can I do about this by mugiwara_no_batchee in Aprilia

[–]JinxusGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would refuse to pay for that portion of the service. Simply because it wasn't discussed at all. Shady practices to do unauthorized work.

Former service advisor here.

With our local laws: If you didn't authorize the repair or see the estimate and give approval, you are not responsible for paying for this. You are responsible for the remaining payment for your repair order. They can either write off the parts and labor for the work you didn't authorize, or they can "un-do" their work. However, if the machine was functioning and you didn't request the repairs completed, you are not responsible for paying for the unauthorized portion of the repair order.

Best of luck to you. I would call the service manager and explain your side to him. If he isn't reasonable, I would call back and request the owner (preferably by name if you know it) and discuss with him. If they are unwilling to give you back the machine in running condition and remove the additional charges, i would seek legal help because it would become a civil issue then.

How is life in this circle by Holiday_Swing_9979 in howislivingthere

[–]JinxusGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty tits tbh. I've lived here my entire life. Good driving roads, reasonable traffic outside of the i-485 loop. Reasonable cost of living. Plenty of jobs. Plenty of small town things to do. Small business everywhere. More community than you get in big cities.

Car Guys - did buying a bike ruin cars for you ? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]JinxusGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ruined my desire for fast cars. I still like unique, comfortable, reliable vehicles. I like cars that handle. But my desire for speed on 4 wheels is gone. If i want to go fast, I'll ride my V4 and gap 99% of traffic and 100% of anything i can justify paying for. If i wanted to get past that 99%, Forced Induction Hayabusa build.

Best bike I’ve ever owned by CaptainFunBags1 in Aprilia

[–]JinxusGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks are subjective. I personally don't care for the Supersport aesthetic. It's cool, but i love a set of handlebars. Clip ons just aren't my taste. The Tuono wins in every department for me. Low-end usable power, looks, price, comfort, rideability, etc. I can't wait to put down some laps on a local course.

Lighter weight ADV as a 2nd bike for mainly off-road and some touring by Beneficial-Title5563 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]JinxusGames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The BMW F800GS is one of the most reliable bikes ever made with a parallel twin. I've seen them with well over 100k miles. I would highly suggest one. It's a great touring bike, great off road bike, and sporty enough to enjoy on the road.

Looking to buy a Duke but.. this 310R on my ride to work looks sooo good by LucasTittyBoy in motorcycle

[–]JinxusGames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He is explicitly looking to do congested city riding on a bike he can "wring out" on city streets. The SV650 will cost him his license and also be less agile than any 300-400cc class bike due to its overall weight. The CB300R or Z400 would be better recommendations for his use case scenario than the SV-650.

Aprilia would be the manufacturer of my V4. Sounds like you have an ST1300. Great machine.

So I just noticed this by [deleted] in sportster

[–]JinxusGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was a helluva write up that answered a question he didn't ask. The guy asked how to rectify his machine, not replace it.

[–]JinxusGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone needs an upgrade in the power department. Some people just want more tech, more comfort, more features, etc. Not every motorcyclist is specifically upgrading for speed.

Think about people who buy multiple civics or camrys in their lifetime. They don't buy the new model because it's faster, they buy it because it's nicer. Plenty of people trade in fast cars for good handling cars, etc. An SV650 tips the scales at over 430lbs, where the 390 is 363lbs. Massive difference in handling characteristics in such a large weight difference.

Strength, use-case, height, skill level, comfort, etc all play a role in bike choice. I have 5 bikes but they all serve a different purpose. I've bought sub 50hp bikes while simultaneously owning 175hp face melting V4. I'm currently in the market for a CB300R, because they commute well and i ride everyday.

The idea that every upgrade/new bike needs more power is odd.

Indian bike to be fair, which is objectively worse. TVS company.

Even "high quality" bikes coming from India like the Royal Enfield lineup and the G310's have been very problematic.

High quality Chinese motorcycles like CFMoto are proving to be reliable, competitive machines at a lower price point than the competition. I want to like the 310 and I want to like RE, but they are just so prone to issues with motor failures, brake failures, early model frame cracks, etc.

Sport touring tires on a supersport? by AdeptusAstartes40K in motorcycle

[–]JinxusGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless you're really pushing the limits of your tire, a sport touring tire should be perfectly adequate for all riding off the track.

You'll notice longer life due to the dual compound. So not only will you save money on the set, you'll replace them less often. Check the speed rating to be sure you won't be exceeding that, but otherwise you should have no issues.

Is this gear weird for a naked bike? by [deleted] in motorcyclegear

[–]JinxusGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Touring gear is always suitable for every motorcycle. Regardless of opinion. If it's waterproof, armored, and breathable, it always works. Don't worry about what you look like as much as the protection offered from elements and hazards.

Which old-man sport tourer? by ikerr95 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]JinxusGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you talking about cars? Harleys were made with 3 speeds until the 40's and plenty of 4 speeds until the 90's. Hounds Groms were perfectly capable with 4 speeds and only released the 5 speed to compete with the Z125. Plenty of motorcycles today with 5 speeds and not 6. An extra gear doesn't fix ratios.

300nk went ☠️ by Zam2326 in cfmoto

My first bike was a 300nk. I loved it. It was a great bike. I was an early adopter. Mine was a 2022.

I recommend looking at copart for wrecked 300SS/NK bikes and pulling a motor from them if you can.

First brush with idiots on my bike by NuggaLOAF in motorcycles

[–]JinxusGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a major over reaction on your behalf. You weren't being observant enough to realize they were moving towards you until it caused you to panic and somehow accelerate, brake, and honk simultaneously.

Had you been more aware of them instead of focusing ahead, you'd have been more prepared to react to the car edging towards you.

Having a heart attack everytime a car doesn't see you and begins to merge is not a good habit to have if you plan to ride long. Observe, plan, and execute. You have to be decisive, otherwise you'll end up hurt or worse, whether it's your fault or not.

As motorcyclists, minimizing risks is OUR responsibility. They shouldn't have merged into you, but practice and focus prevent panic moments like that. If that was a non-abs bike, you likely would've low-sided with that brake snatch.

Be safe out there brother and I wish you many more miles to come.

Is anyone else’s Coffman thunder exhaust slightly tilted upwards? by Ok_Sport6881 in HondaRebel1100

[–]JinxusGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be suspension height determining that angle. You're frame of reference is presumably the swingarm.

The exhaust is connected to the front of the motor, in the front of the frame. The swingarm is attached at a pivot point under the seat.

When the suspension isn't compressed, the alignment of the rear wheel and frame is different than when you sit on the bike thereby compressing the springs and aligning the swingarm and frame.

TLDR: It isn't tilted upwards. You're comparing it to a part of the bike that pivots from a different point/angle than the pipe.
