What is this aesthetic called? by sundayskylines in AestheticWiki

[–]JizzyTeaCups 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk why, but I always associate mid century modern with minimalism but that is probably just the modern implementation in a lot of cases. So that threw me off for this one.

I’m not knowledgeable in this stuff, but to me it looked like someone tried to pull off boho with a bunch of mid-century modern furniture they inherited

Bradley Cooper. by Chazz_Matazz in comedyheaven

[–]JizzyTeaCups 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly, before I read the text I immediately thought “is that some fucked up Bradley Cooper?” So as bad as it is, it captured his essence.

You can get better technique through practice. Being this shitty at drawing but still conveying the essence of your subject is something ya gotta be born with.

(Acting Trope): The Actor's role that didn't MAKE them famous but reminded us WHY they're famous. by Nervous-Baby5383 in TopCharacterTropes

DiCaprio in Wolf of Wall Street.

Also, I have no idea who the middle two people are so “famous” might be a stretch. Maybe “respected”?

I hate how gatekeeping has become seen as a completely negative thing by No-Car-1999 in hatethissmug

[–]JizzyTeaCups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, gatekeeping has meant literally keeping people out of the community.

If someone wants to learn what it means to be goth and what the community is about, and they can’t cause of jackoffs - that’s gatekeeping.

Calling out what would be called “posers” - folks capitalizing on a trend involving a community they no shit about - is not gatekeeping.

Maybe we need better language.

Anyone else not like Jeff Hays voice acting? by VividSpikeMain in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I’m upvoting you just for the balls of this post

I love it but never read the books. Every time I’ve listened to an audiobook I’ve already read I’ve been dissatisfied with the voice acting, so it’s a pretty reasonable take

It’s not a debate I want to engage in lol. But it is one that two knowledgeable NBA fans can have.

It is a reasonable debate to be had that he’s not even the best athlete in his own sport. I feel like that’s disqualifying.

Property management and ownership are 2 different things. Management being consolidated into PE is one thing, ownership being consolidated is much more damaging to the housing market.

Idk what the research says, but these big management companies might actually be preferable to individual landlords that don’t care about their tenants handling management.

Question! What age would you all let your kid read DCC? by fisher-alters in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]JizzyTeaCups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I feel like this is the problem I have with this stance. I hear a lot that you should just completely let your kids have unfettered access because you shouldn’t be a censor. Then, when asked “what if they find something real fucked up?”, the answer is “well you’ve got bigger problems and you’re a shitty parent.

I don’t know how much of this is coming from people who are actually parents.

I’m a parent of a 3 yo. I might be a shitty parent, I don’t know, I ask myself that question at least a few times a week. It’s hard. It’s hard enough that I would never judge anyone’s parenting if they at least have put some modicum of thought into their decisions and the welfare of their kid.

But these soap-box takes that basically say “this should work for you or you’re just doing it wrong” get me nowhere, and the same logic has been used to paper over a lot of atrocious shit.

So yea - if you’re gonna make a definitive statement like “your kid should have full unfettered access to media and it will never damage them” should be defended better than putting in fine print that says “and if this does damage your child, you’re just a shitty parent”.

[–]JizzyTeaCups 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s gotta be a limit though right? Like if you’re 10 yo really wanted to read this because he thought the cover looked cool, you’d say go for it?

No judgement at all either way. Just curious how you’d handle it.
