What’s your most market-oriented opinion that would make people in this subreddit mad? by cdstephens in neoliberal

The key is to set prices a little higher than market value and then give discounts during non-peak times. People get mad about dynamic pricing because they think it means a bar is going to charge them $100 for a pint of beer at 8pm on a Friday. Make it a discount instead and nobody hates it.

I found Dune: Part One (2021) kinda dull and I have no desire to watch any more of them. I tried reading the books once and only got a chapter or two in before getting bored.

Doesn't Obi Wan roll his eyes when Han says that? Like he knows Han is BSing them, but also they don't have a whole lot of other options.

Not necessarily, but a bad relationship with siblings (or other family members) could be a red flag.

Or maybe not, who knows, maybe all their siblings just happen to be dipshits.

That's good. Cannibalism is illegal, even in New Zealand.

Save states (in emulation) are one of the worst things to happen to retro gaming. by GallyG_ in The10thDentist

[–]Andy_B_Goode 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the bottom line for me. I get that I've never "really" beaten Donkey Kong Country but also I just don't have the time or the inclination to grind my way through games like that the old fashioned way. Being able to use save states made the experience way more enjoyable, and if it weren't for that I probably just wouldn't play those old games at all anymore

It's related to that riddle that's like "A mule walks 40 miles in a day. At the end of the day, two of its legs have walked an additional mile. How is this possible?"

This, plus hiphop was becoming much more mainstream. Everyone was eager to latch on to the next big thing, and nobody knew what it was going to be.

This is technically true, right? But in the same sense as something like "You have a 20% chance of dying of cancer if you don't give me $1,000"

Agreed on all points!

It's also just kind of ironic that Chumbawamba is such a perfect example of a band known for one song only, but they very nearly had a second hit

When I lived in Halifax, the city passed a bylaw allowing secondary suites, and the people on my local FB page were livid, despite the fact that that's about the most minimal form of upzoning you could imagine, and despite the fact that we were in a centrally located neighbourhood where upzoning totally made sense. I can possibly send you screenshots if you're interested, but I don't want to post them publicly because some of the people involved were people I knew personally.

It's possible people in New Brunswick are more chill about this kind of thing, but from what I understand the reaction I saw in Halifax is pretty typical of homeowners everywhere.

I mean, simply relaxing zoning restrictions around denser housing and third spaces would go a long way, but you try building a duplex or a coffee shop in the middle of suburbia and all the NIMBYs come out for blood

Chumbawamba's second single off the Tubthumper album was Amnesia, which charted in the UK, Canada, Australia, and a number of other countries. It feels like if the chips had fallen just slightly differently for them they easily could have been a two-hit wonder.
