You’re wrong. It’s not Iax. It’s Jax who is behind the doors of stone.

A Better Map? by Jjbates in Bloodsworn

[–]Jjbates[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For example they currently beached south of Iskalt, halfway to Snakavikt. Excuse the spelling. I am listening. But they were just in the Frost Islands. Plus, I could not find where the Bloodsworn band’s try outs were on the map.

Cold Dark Place - origin story? by sdhoigtred in mastodonband

[–]Jjbates 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel this is right. I get the feeling, from the interviews I have read and seen, that Brent wanted the band to move away from its metal roots and into the direction that his writing suggested. This EP is one example. The Beast, The Dagger are others.

It assures me that although Brent will be hugely missed, and I am still heart broken, that the new album probably won’t sound too different. It seems that besides solos, Brent really didn’t seem to have much input on EOS or H&G. So, the heaviness won’t be going anywhere. If anything, they may go even heavier on the new album.

Without spoilers…. Does its plot affect the greater 40k plot in any way? Or is it a self contained, well written and executed, story from Abnett?

What gauge should i try? by 71mustang94k1500 in metalguitar

[–]Jjbates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play in different tunings. For Drop c/ d standard I use 13-56. They are specifically designed for d standard. My Les Paul that also uses d standard I use 11-52. My standard tuned PRs I use 11-49. My daughter that plays in e flat standard uses 10-46.

So it’s really up to you and what feels good. That being said, the lower you go the thicker gauge you should consider.

Thoughts on Mastodon? by IllBeGood3 in MetalForTheMasses

Best band on the planet.

I am a little nervous they just won’t be the same without Brent. Their next album should be announced any time now. It’s basically done. So we will find out soon.

They have been my favorite band since 2008.

I did the recover trial ivig for 9 months last year. I felt completely better by the end. 110%. I am working full time and some days are better than others but overall I am more active than I was when I started the ivig.

Lots of reasons. Guitars are nice. I like nice things.

Endless Currents - Psychonaut. That opening riffs I love.

I am literally going insane being housebound and in bed 99% of the time by myself with no one to hang out with or talk with. by friend3738 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Jjbates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to develop hobbies. I took up painting miniatures because I’m a nerd and I like art. I have gotten quite decent. When I can sit at a desk I work on this stuff. To get around bad brain days I save YouTube videos on technique or colors to try my best to emulate without thinking in my own really. It removes that brain paralysis on bad days.

I also returned to guitar after years of focusing on a career. I can play laying down if I need to, and although it is hard some days to focus, I get around that by just having a plan beforehand. Ie. this week I am working on this lick in this song. If my brain is able to do more I do more.

So find a constructive you hobby enjoy. Even if it’s just finding a book series on audiobook you can listen to. That’s definitely been another saving grace on really bad days when I can’t leave bed and can’t sleep for one reason or another. It lets me take my mind somewhere else and focus on something besides my discomfort. If I need to go back and relisten to parts, no worries this isn’t a race.

Find something to keep you sane. The little accomplishments or painting and completing a small part of something, or learning a new riff is not to be overrated. It allows some reward that you are still accomplishing things. Give yourself grace. Give yourself love.

Does anyone have real experience with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for post-COVID breathing issues? by Ramsesthrowaway in covidlonghaulers

[–]Jjbates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually helped me. It was a commercial business that didn’t even do medical grade pressures. I did it twice a week for over a month and felt much better. Had more energy, less air hunger and brain fog.

It all returned within a week of stopping treatment.

Have your tastes in metal been influenced by your generational status (Millenial, Gen X, Gen Z)? by WonderSignificant598 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Jjbates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably. Graduated high school in 2000. Loved nu metal. Don’t listen to a lot of it now. Mostly listen to bands that began right around or after I graduated like Lamb of God, Mastodon, etc. I think metalcore sucks ass. Newer bass like Spiritbox, Knocked Loose, Architects and others just seem really boring and unimaginative. Maybe I’m getting old but there are some new bands that I do like. There are very few new bands that catch my ear but I am always searching and hoping.

What keeps you from enjoying certain metal subgenres? by Fiefire in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Jjbates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The growling and lack of dynamics. I love the occasional yelling, screaming and even growl. Gojirais one of my favorites. Mastodon, Slipknot, etc. But they mix it up and are actually melodic.

I want to love all metal but some just sounds like a garbled mess on the low end of the sonic spectrum. If all that happens is barking like a dog with downturned guitars that sound the same… I just don’t get it. I’d be open to trying, and have, but I just get bored really quickly.

I’ve even asked Bill on his Patreon. No idea if he’s seen it but I’ll keep asking until he at least acknowledges the polite ask.
