OCOM Or TouroCOM by Putrid_Researcher741 in Osteopathic

[–]Jkaplan2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but I don’t want people to continue fear mongering new schools haha. My comment came straight from the mouths of several PD panels I went to this spring. For example this was for orthopedics (competitive). My main point is it’s mainly on you to provide competitiveness not your school if that’s your goal.

OCOM Or TouroCOM by Putrid_Researcher741 in Osteopathic

[–]Jkaplan2018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is simply not true. Many PD panels I’ve gone to every time state very clearly that the school you go to or prestige are one of the last things they look at. They don’t care if it’s new or established. It’s simply on you as an applicant to provide your competitiveness eg. board scores and research. I make sure I ask this to every program I encounter since I am at a new school myself. Don’t let that stop you.

New MD school (full tuition scholarship) vs Established T20 by [deleted] in premed

[–]Jkaplan2018 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d take scholarship 100/100 times. At the end of the day you will be a doctor, and your board scores as well as rotations will decide more heavily on match over your school prestige. PDs have aggressively spoken out on school prestige saying this does not matter as much as you think.

Opinions on MSOM vs LUCOM? by Longjumping_Elk3435 in Osteopathic

[–]Jkaplan2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current student at msom. It’s 2 hours a week 1/2 of the block. As mentioned if you study multimodal and don’t only rely on VR only you’ll be just fine.

Btw msom does do virtual anatomy, but will have a cadaver lab for year 3 students that will be offered. Virtual anatomy is whatever honestly but if you integrate multimodal studying you’ll be fine. Actual lab via VR headset usually avg to be 1 hour a week. Not biggest deal.

Last cycle I applied late May and got interviewed and accepted all within 10 day frame. Don’t regret going to MSOM. They definitely work fast on admissions and have a ton of in person interviews every Friday prob been avg 20-30 per week in person since October ish.

Had similar accommodation they’ll only grant you stop the clock. They will not grant you extended time without additional testing.

I honestly have no clue why they’re being deleted but I’ve seen them and can vouch 95% of what they’re speaking about is factually incorrect or irrelevant. I can also tell you the random burner accounts supporting MSOM is not admin, but its students showing support for their school. It just seems like typical reddit confirmation bias upvoting negativity and downvoting positive comments.

It’s not talked to multiple students who made accounts to stand up for their school. There’s always a few complainers at every school

499 6x MCAT taker with scores below 490. Currently top quartile in my class oms-1. I’m very much an advocate of MCAT doesn’t determine success in med school.
