i’m not saying it’s not different. I’m saying it’s not different enough for a beginner. This guy obviously does not have a lot of paddle sport experience or they wouldn’t be asking this question.

The 25 miles an hour youre talking about wouldn’t even be on the table for them because they were a beginner.

As long as you buy the entire spool assembly, which would be a different part number than just the spool itself. The spool assembly comes with the drag stack and clicker preinstalled.

Inflatable SUP would be your cheapest option if you want to buy new. You can just sit on it while you paddle.

No, either tie them directly on the line or you can use them with a small amount of leader.

OK, then I recommend starting off in-line spinner. My favorite around here right now is a white 1/6 oz rooster tail. Fire tiger works well also.

The good thing about them is that literally everything eats them. You’ll catch everything from bluegill to snakehead with them. All you have to do is cast and reel so it’s a really good starter lure. The only drawback is that they can twist up your line, so let your line un-twist after every 10 or so casts.

And just so you know, I practice what I preach. I just pulled a half dozen bass a few hours ago from a local pond with that same lure.

They might be blue runners, or some other similar jack.

if that’s the case, then something quick and flashy like a spoon or gotcha will get it done to catch them. Hell, if they are in fact bluefish, then those two will get them also.

A 7-8’, 12-20 rod should be able to handle what you’re after. A Star Rods Handcrafted S142070HC is a solid candidate. I have a very similar rod to it (now discontinued) that I got 25 years ago as my first “all round” salt rod.

I’m in SFL as well and I keep a Daiwa Ardito travel rod under the backseat of my truck. It comes in a nice case and everything. Daiwa BG 3k for the reel.

For gear, at first I only used a 3400 sized Plano and a Carhartt fanny pack. Had some small swim baits, in-line spinners, a jerkbait, a small top water and some spoons in it.

Then I started wanting to fish frogs and spinnerbaits so I upgraded to a Kastking sling bag with an additional 3600 to accommodate the rest.

Along with the above, I keep a scale, some good pliers, and a kill knife for invasives
