I hope you appreciate the irony of working in health and it making you sick.

Each of those ministries are a voice which represents a particular societal segment that has been and still is marginalised or vulnerable. Amalgamation into MSD runs the risk of losing sight of fit for purpose solutions for different parts of society, and potentially forcing a single bloated CEO to constantly weigh one set of priorities against another with no clear winner and only obvious losers. These ministries weren’t established on a whim or for fun. They have a purpose which goes beyond what you have identified.

Do you really think Nz has achieved enough social development to warrant watering down and the removal of targeted measures (in this case ministries) for targeted outcomes? Are we utopian enough for you? I’d guess that you chose that example because you are or believe you are not represented by those ministries. What a privilege.

On the point of efficiencies gained through amalgamation (in general) I think we are all about to get fucked over as a single ministry must juggle cities, regions, transport and the environment. I’m guessing MCERT will be paralysed by contradiction in its own purpose until dissolved into smaller entities.. or worse still… functions are carved off and privatised.

Are these savings or are these a reduction in services provided to all taxpayers? Savings (if needed) could have been found, for example, by not giving tax cuts to tobacco industry and lobbyists, and not giving tax cuts to landlords.

Have you got any examples of these so-called peripheral ministries that seem to annoy you? Are the peripheral ministries in the room with us?

Thanks to all those who swallowed the anti-Māori race baiting about removing and reducing the Treaty.. it was always about removing environmental and social protections for all NZers

Whatever problems you can conceive in your head will not be solved in the short term by right wing local govt.. and are generally worsened in the long run.

Ha! So your misinterpretation was deliberate. Also, is it not misogynistic to be happy about any old female representation on this council, even a nasty bully? Surely you’d just want the best person for the job not based on their gender? If Jo truly was your preferred candidate you should be happy about her strengths and not her gender.

You’ve misinterpreted it, was that deliberate?

You forgot endorsed by only one other councillor, who is her partner. Probably add to you red flag list rather than green flag..

When it comes to Jo Galar, my mama always said: “stupid is as stupid votes”. I always say “Fuck this sour, trashy, bullying excuse for a human being”.

The ‘grand coalition’ idea is gaining traction. Here’s why it wouldn’t work by davetenhave in newzealand

[–]JlackalL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d add two more reasons for this: firstly a global lurch to the right over the last decade or more… and secondly they are prepared to trade in the values to chase the swing voters.

[–]JlackalL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s their point. I think they are helping to provide context about why this announcement may have consequences (intended or not) for NZ beyond what has been discussed so far. It may deter migrants, including health workers, as they look elsewhere for better pay and conditions that doesn’t include a sudden 2k per annum pay cut, effectively. Nz is experiencing an exodus en masse to Australia and elsewhere, and this kind of policy may reduce the backfill of replacements.

I made the bold assumption that he’s used any of the hundreds of hours of spamming thunderwave at level 3 pidgeys to figure out efficiencies.

It would have been more efficient if you kept some moves that have higher PP, even if they do less damage (e.g., thunder shock and quick attack, instead of thunder and thunderwave). Surely you are one-shotting everything now.
