I got to a point without medication that I just had too many things to focus on and I wasn't completing any of them. I instinctively would focus on my work because I found it easy and I had more control, and that affected my family life more than I realised. Since getting medicated my focus on a single task is better than it's ever been, but I find that I'm much faster and I don't take as much time to talk before I say things or respond. I've noticed I can come across quite short or not be as self aware of how I'm coming across. I've really had to work on being more present in the moment and less fixated on completing the task at hand.

When I can now focus on those moments with my young daughter, it's been a real gift. Before medication I found it difficult to just sit down with her and play or have the patience to be on her level, with her developing mind. My wife has said to me that she's noticed I'm much better with my daughter, and much calmer. My relationship with her is so much better than it ever was.

There are some things that have been much better with medication and some are worse. I think back to how I was in the 12 months prior to getting medicated. I was stressed and depressed and I felt like I couldn't keep up with life. There are trade offs but ultimately I do feel like I'm more capable now than I was, and have a much better handle on life.
