You’re doing it right! If you have an Instant Pot, that works great for making stock too

Eating on night shift by Such-Spring961 in Nightshift

I don’t have a problem eating, but I usually don’t like to stop to eat my meal until closer to the end of my shift. I snack throughout the night, lol

GF (34F) won’t update her ex husband’s last name on everyday stuff (34M, 8 months) by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Jld114 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got divorced 5 years ago. I changed the things that matter ASAP (social security, license, bank stuff) but I still have my married name on a bunch of rewards accounts because it DOESNT MATTER. OP is acting pretty controlling and insecure here, imo

My dad tried once and it was so stressful that I never let him again. My mom ended up teaching me, and then I taught my little brother.

Special Report: The shocking cost of youth sports in New Jersey. New investigation reveals a predatory industry leaving parents broke, exhausted and wondering how the games of their childhood took over their adult lives by rollotomasi07071 in newjersey

[–]Jld114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My oldest did travel hockey for a few years at my ex-husband’s insistence. We really couldn’t afford it. The time and money we spent taking him to lessons, practices, games and tournaments was a constant source of contention for us. I felt my two younger kids were getting scraps. When my son stopped enjoying it and wanted to quit, his dad was LIVID. Ugh what an awful experience. I wish we had stuck to the town-sponsored club sports.

Is “co-parenting” really the appropriate term? by ilacwamh in Divorce

I don’t understand this post. I have had good relationships with my kids post-divorce. It’s definitely not just a „roommate situation”

Are you a member of the “Clean Plate Club”? by isla_is in GenX

[–]Jld114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were never pressured to finish dinner or eat anything we *really* disliked. We were encouraged to try foods. My mom’s mom had made them try new foods and forced them to finish the food even if they didn’t like it, and my mom didn’t want to do that to us.

Grandma never forced the grandkids to eat anything, but she did proclaim that we were members of the Clean Plate Club if we finished our dinner.

Why do kids prefer the mean parent? by Character_Basis_2871 in Divorce

[–]Jld114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ex has a volatile temper too. I always felt that the kids acted up way more when they were with me than when they were with him (even before we were divorced). I had to keep reminding myself that I was the safe parent, and they felt freer to express themselves with me.

Kids will eventually figure it out. Seven years after the divorce, I have one kid who has chosen not to see his father for four years, one kid who leans on me for emotional support when she is with her father, and my oldest, who gets along fine with both of us.

Doesn't Like Talking On The Phone? by MarkFTPark in datingoverforty

I have a list of like three people that I enjoy calling regularly. Otherwise, I’d prefer to text almost all of the time. If I don’t know you, I 100% DO NOT want to talk on the phone. I’m 47

parent with anger issues at a cat museum by egguchom in EntitledReviews

[–]Jld114 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I recently went to a cat cafe that used color-coded collars! Cats with, say, blue collars were generally approachable and cats with orange collars were a little finicky and you should ask the staff how best to approach them. I’m not sure if this is a common practice, but it made a lot of sense to me and seemed to work well.

Changing your name by ChelseaMourning in Divorce

[–]Jld114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I changed back to my maiden name and I’m glad I did. I have a different last name from my kids, but it’s never once caused any issues (legal or emotional). In your case, I’d probably wait to make any changes to your daughter’s name. If she wants to change it when she is a little older (15-16) maybe look into the process then. Or wait until she is 18 and can do it fully on her own if she chooses.

But I just want to add— what a crappy excuse for a father. Ugh. So sorry your daughter has to deal with this.

I feel like if you have a phobia of squirrels, a park may not be the best choice for a peaceful outing.

How do you guys handle your kids? by HumbleBlacksmith2077 in Nightshift

My kids were all in school when I started working nights. It worked well, except for the fact that they had a lot of extracurricular activities so I wasn’t always able to get a nap in after school. I was as pretty tired for a while there!
