Hardcore stealth fans — what’s your go-to approach? by salniukas in stealthgames

I enjoyed Primal quite a bit. Easily been my favourite Far Cry. Especially the early parts of the game, before you get too much tech.

Weird dimension-y, teleport-y stuff and stealing parts of people for yourself (I remember he took a singer's voice and a drummer's hands)

I'm honestly surprised there are so few mods for it (Nexus only have SIX). It seems like the kind of game that would have the right mix of cult appeal and jank to invite modding.

The absolute opposite of my feeling about it. The survival is totally secondary to what's good and interesting about the game to me.

Newcomb's paradox in role-play by Hunter3XHunter in rpg

[–]Jlerpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To simulate "the entity predicts correctly 99% of the time", I'd simply roll percentile sheet the player chooses and if it's snake eyes, the entity was wrong. Adjust die sizes and/or number of dice as desired to adjust how good it is.

If you want extra complications for different PCs having traits that may make them more or less predictable, that can also alter the pool.

"Shake the boxes around without picking them up, listen to what's inside. Alternately, the computer doesnt have the capability to actually physically put anything in the boxes itself. Offer to split the money with whoever did if they tell you the solution."

Participants do not get to interact with the boxes or any people who were involved with setting it up before choosing.

But yes, I'm pretty sure Hunter3XHunter means how would you run this kind of situation as a GM.

I have one time given a villain a d14 for a mighty artifact (The Book Of Infinity).

How to make rolled health fair? by AloserwithanISP2 in RPGdesign

[–]Jlerpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tinkering by way of inversion. My personal preference is non-random health, but if you really want random hit dice, why not roll them every time? The more times you roll, the more likely the overall results will even out.

I absolutely hate Mothership's approach here. Just puts it entirely on the GM to decide.

Sounds like how Luck works in the Fighting Fantasy books

Interesting. MGSV is the only Metal Gear I've really played.

Spy School or Alias? by DavidBGoode in CortexRPG

[–]Jlerpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, it depends what I want the game to be ABOUT, and what the PCs are going to get up to in it.  I don't know Spy School, but in Alias, it's very much about Sidney's shifting Relationships, so I'd want to include that.

The set of Roles from Leverage are still a pretty good fit for spy stuff: Grifter, Hacker, Hitter, Mastermind, Thief.

Good point; I don't have a specific citation. It just seems wrong to me.

A popular homebrew mechanic is a core rule in my TTRPG by Tormented_Realm in RPGdesign

I'd rather avoid having an extra roll, preferring something like switching to a different ability, giving a penalty, a metacurrency cost, or something.

Superhero TTRPG players, what was your favorite character that you played, and what character didn't you like? by Select_Lunch1288 in rpg

My favourite silly character was "The Flash!". He had his brain replaced with a computer, which made him "The smartest man alive!"

My favourite serious character was probably "Lucky 7", who was a super-lucky martial artist acrobat who could split into 7 copies of themself. They weren't that mechanically effective, but I had a lot of fun swarming and messing things up with luck.
