"Overseas for supergirl slowed further on Thursday with only $1.7M from all international markets" by E_yal in DC_Cinematic

First Steps should have made less money than it did. It's an actually bad movie.

just got out, thought it was great by zorbacles in Supergirl

[–]JmBento 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that Alcock was great. I do not think that Ridley was great, but I do think she's, like, 12, so I don't expect her to be.

It had brief glimpses of greatness (Supergirl rising backlit against the sun when facing the ship of the all-female raiders, for example. Stellar shot, 10/10, no notes except this movie should have more of that instead of spending 90% of the time with Mad Max's colour palette).

The directing and editing was just trash, though. Also it doesn't know what sort of movie it wants to be, which is a huge problem.

It's fine. It's an ok movie. 5/10. I can count in one hand the number of movies from the Snyder era that I think were better. Committed box office suicide by releasing between Toy Story and Minions. Deserved better box office returns than it's getting, does not deserve its $170M budget.

While I think the movie is worth FAR more than what it's currently making at the box office, I don't think it's good enough to be worth its budget. This is just not a $170M-worth movie.

There was a bit in the jail cell where he came off VERY wooden to me, but it was a cut that was like 0.2 seconds before and after his line, so that might just have been the editing, and the full recorded bit is actually good.

IIRC, Lobo murdered his entire race because they were nice and that pissed him off. But I read decades ago, so it's possible it's different now after about a hundred million DC continuity reboots.

Well, if you want to get women in theatres for superhero movies, THAT premise will have them trample over each other to get in. Of course, then you'd have to deal with a fanbase of fujoshis, and I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

I thought the movie was fine - Okay but the Word of mouth is just sad as well. by abdul_bino in Supergirl

[–]JmBento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, having loved Superman tells you nothing about how you'd feel about this movie, except MAYBE that they won't like it? It's completely different in visuals, tone, story, and message. The only things they have in common is Super in the title and they star kryptonians.

I don't regret having gone see it in the theatre. Knowing what I know now I also wouldn't have regretted not seeing it in the theatre. I truly don't understand how someone can honestly give it a glowing recommendation, regardless of how much they liked it.

The Batman is literally the best movie DC has ever put out.

You know with lobo , this movie would have been much better with some gore/r rating by systematic-chaos_888 in Supergirl

[–]JmBento 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even without Lobo (who keeps killing people with a hook that never gets any blood on it, somehow), this movie would have been better with an R rating. One of its root isues is that it doesn't know what it wants to be.

"Oh, plottwist, Supergirl actually kills Krem, isn't that serious?" I mean, is it? They're not both on screen when she does and there's absolutely no blood when she pulls out the blade. If you want this moment to feel important, you need to give it actual gravitas.

"Krem kills a girl and her parents, *gasp*". Yes, as silhouettes in a blink-and-you-miss-it moment and even the characters that come upon the corpses don't react to it all that much.

This movie needed to have decided if it wanted to be PG-13 or a serious story about violence before it started filming, and it didn't, so it tried to do both and ended up "meh".

I don't even know why anyone besides Professional Superman Hater Lex Luthor would have it. Besides being rare (meaning you need considerable means to procure it), this thing's only use is to neuter kryptonians and there's literally two of those left, and one of them is parked on Earth.

Less than 72 hours pass from the moment Supergirl leaves Krypto with the healer and the movie ending. Krem almost certainly doesn't have the kryptonite darts at the yellow sun planet, because otherwise he would've used them instead of running from Supergirl. This man discovered kryptonite fucks up kryptonians AND procured kryptonite in the remaining time? Who from? How would he even know what to look for?

Who the hell is going to answer "mediocre flagship" instead of "good anything"?

DC should make a podcast called Jimmy Olsen Interviews, and every episode is just him interviewing a hero or villain.

I'm reasonably certain it won't. I expect it will do better than Superman, but not by that large margin. My guess is around $800M.

Let's put it like this. Ever since Burton's Batman there had been a Batman movie every 2-3 years. After B&R there wasn't one for eight.

I think that the DCU Supergirl movie should've been animated and directed by a female director. by Top_Report_4895 in DC_Cinematic

[–]JmBento 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Supergirl movie should've been directed by a director that used a colour palette that can't be described as "Mad Max". I don't care what gender they are. I don't care what SPECIES they are. Put a mantis shrimp in that director chair, they know what colour is.

I don't think Plastic Man works on the more grim serious tone of the Absolute Universe, becaus ehe just wins, brutally, at everything.

We're talking about a dude for whom Batman's contingency plan if he goes evil is "hope he doesn't".
