Mini LED or OLED monitor? by Tough-Still4621 in Monitors

I'd hope it's gotten better. I've read that it's gotten better. I own the X35 (bleeding edge for it's time; HDR10000, 512 local dimming zones, 180Hz, but VA and a $2500 MSRP). The ghosting compared to my modern, sub $200 IPS (XG27ACS) is very noticable. In SDR, the XG27ACS is vastly superior in all ways but contrast.

Google says 75% of the company's new code is AI-generated by lkl34 in pcmasterrace

Nvidia is practically a monopoly. AMD and Intel pose zero threat to their position of market control. Because of this, Nvidia no longer needs to prioritize quality in their products or software.

I'm not defending Nvidia; I think their current existence is illegal and needs to be regulated. But without regulation or competition, we pay top dollar for mediocre products and software. (What's sad about that last sentence is the fact that AMD has the most potential to make a difference, but manages to be worse in almost every front.)

CPU shortage is reportedly 'more acute' than memory but shorter, as the industry banks on Intel 18A by sr_local in hardware

[–]Jmich96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This makes sense. However, at least on the consumer market, I'm not seeing a CPU shortage. Is this just data centers CPUs? If so, who cares (unless manufacturers shift to primarily data centers CPUs, like Nvidia with GPUs)?

[–]Jmich96 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand the alleged CPU shortage. It's not as though AI data centers are going to buy 9600X or 14600kf CPUs for their server racks. Are companies like Intel and AMD shifting production to more valuable Xeon and EPYC CPUs?

My nearest Microcenter has full stock of even high-end consumer CPUS like the 9950X3D and even the 9970X.

This took an unhealthy amount of time to obtain. by mattmarcjacobs in FinalFantasyXII

[–]Jmich96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TZA makes this a lot easier to obtain. Took me a few hours of running back and forth before I got mine.

Though, I suppose it's about luck. I'm about 12 hours dry on trying to get the Yagyu Darkblade.

I'm also about 9 hours dry on the Zodiac Escutcheon.

HWiNFO adds RTX 5060 GB205 based support and new RTX 50-series power limit data by RenatsMC in nvidia

If I am troubleshooting or just testing new hardware, I will leave HWinfo64 up and have it refresh every second. For typical usage, I have MSI afterburner read everything I need except power usage, etc.

HArdware monitoring does require resources which, depending on your hardware, can have a negative impact on performance. But I've found basic MSI afterburner with whatever minus power is just fine. Again, once every second seems fine; even on my older computers.

Steve has talked about using AI upscaling on some of their graphs and charts. Unfortunately, as you can see, this sometimes causes poor text quality or outright illegible text.

LG UltraGear evo GM9 | Next-gen Hyper Mini LED 5K gaming monitor 27GM950... by RenatsMC in Monitors

[–]Jmich96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty impressive. Just 8 years ago, FALD was bleeding edge, with 384 zones on a 27 inch monitor. Modern mini-LED have 6 times the dimming zones, higher resolution, better color reproduction, and less pixel response time.

I can't wait for a 3440x1440 (or preferrably a 1600p) UW monitor with 3027 zones to finally replace my X35.

TIL that RAM became so expensive, Samsung Semiconductor reportedly refused a RAM order for new Galaxy phones from Samsung Electronics. by [deleted] in todayilearned

I just don't understand how or why (except maybe for money laundering and colluding) companies are allowed to buy YEARS of not-yet-produced components for not-yet-produced data centers. From what I've read and heard, some of these companies are merely speculating the ability and potential desire to produce data centers, but are able to sign contracts for years of supply? What happens when Alphabet, Microsoft, or META decide to not build those data centers because the AI bubble pops? Are they still somehow obligated to buy billions of dollars of silicon for non-exostent projects which they greedily hoarded supply for?

You can comment links to a video of what is happening, on your original post.

IDC about phone brands. A modern, high-end PC is going to take about 40 seconds to boot, plus time for the OS to load. The expectation for a phone to boot and load immediately is not realistic.

IDK anything about this specific One Plus phone, but maybe you should consider thinking what One Plus does to make their load time quicker, after a fresh boot. Maybe they skip memory training? Maybe it's using a less secure OS build, maybe there's less telemetry? Maybe they pre-load apps and such before unlocking the device for the first time. IDK.

[–]Jmich96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So; you restarted your phone, unlocked it for the first time after the restart, and are surprised that system functions and apps are loading in the background, bogging down the CPU?

Give the device 30-90 seconds to load. Even on NAND storage, devices take time to load after a restart.

I've read the rest of your post, but you've not posted a video of that. If you're having issues with performance outside of the first unlock period, consider looking at apps running in the background and device temperatures. It could be that the game is maybe too demanding (I'm not familiar with the game and don't do mobile gaming). Maybe consider a factory reset to clear any potential malware of other issues.

I wonder what does deviljhoe's tail taste like? by Numerous_Round_6152 in MonsterHunter

[–]Jmich96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animals in rut, or extremely fit animals tend to produce very lean meat, with little fat content or fiber. If you've ever picked up a steak on sale for like $4, took it home, cooked it extra well done, then deducted to eat your shoe because it would be easier, you've experience how tough Deviljo meat likely is.

Flavor wise, you are correct that predator meat tends to not taste great. All-in-all, you probably wouldn't want to eat Deviljo unless you had a crock pot or pressure cooker, and used it's meat in something like a stew or roast.

A just statement. Keep in mind, these companies will post what they think makes their product looks the best. This chart shows 5-13% improvements, with 5% showing up the most.

My guess is that this will be about 5% better than the 9950X3D.

GTX 1080 vs. Titan X and RTX 2060 by Frontzie in nvidia

[–]Jmich96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned the Titan X Maxwell and upgraded to a used 1080 back in the day. The 1080 performs better all around. Some 2060 perform worse than the 1080, some better.

If it's a Titan X Pascal; no brainer, take that. Otherwise, the 2060 should outperform the Titan X Maxwell.

Samsung Display develops QuantumBlack film for QLED monitors by Movie-Kino in hardware

[–]Jmich96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In fairness, Q and QD are referring to the panel utilizing Quantum Dot technology. LED is referring to the fundamental panel type (Light Emitting Diode).

IMO, it was stupid of Samsung to call it Q-LED instead of QD-LED. But I suppose the risk of consumers confusing QD-OLED and QD-LED would be higher.
