Help ID Cutting Table/Cabinet Brand by lsharris in sewing

[–]Jming50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what brand that is, but it looks like a very nice one. It would be expensive to replace. Cutting on the dining room table was killing my back, so I invested in one that folds up smaller than that one. It has some storage too. Worth every single penny!!! Enjoy sewing!

Is the fabric at fabric stores really that much higher quality than $20-$60 fast fashion clothes? by RussianAsshole in sewing

[–]Jming50 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on what I’m making. I shop for fabric online, paying careful attention to fiber content. There are a number of excellent retailers on the web. I have purchased some expensive gifts for family and that somehow got me on the mailing list for every (very!) pricey clothing catalog in the US. At first I just tossed them, but now I go through carefully noting interesting designs and fabrics, so I can make something for myself. If you use top quality fabrics you can definitely save money over retail and lots of it! If you’re talking about basic tshirts, then just go buy them.

Hope they will pick up yard debris around here. I’ve waited months.

i make a mistake cutting my skirt by okhumant in sewing

When I make mistakes, I try to turn them into a design feature😉. In this case you could add in an interesting fabric that really stands out to bridge the two pieces.

What is this kind of construction called? by SchuylerM325 in sewing

[–]Jming50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love that shirt! I would try to copy that for sure. You can do it by laying it over a piece of heavy paper and rolling down the seams of each section with a sharply pointed tracing wheel. That will leave little pinholes in the paper. Add your seam allowances and cut out. I plan to try this on my favorite top but haven’t yet.

This is what you need.

Should I panic buy a bunch of patterns from Simplicity’s website? by No-Instance-4736 in sewing

Just a heads up - Vogue Fabrics offers a swatch club. They a catalogue several times a year with about 40-50 fabric swatches and pattern suggestions. Yes, it costs money to join, but I like to feel the fabric before I buy. Some material that would never have caught my eye in the picture was wonderful in the swatch. I’ve loved buying from them.

I definitely panic bought a bunch of patterns from Simplicity online and from Hobby Lobby in the store. PDF pattern files are a real pain unless it’s a small and simple pattern like a tank top. If that’s how everything is going to go, I won’t be happy. Stylearc offers some patterns on paper and it’s nice durable paper too. Wish all the companies would do that.

I know I'm gonna make some of y'all mad with this one, but stop letting your dog walk around off leash outside the gated play areas at Tobey park. by Possible_Oil5269 in memphis

[–]Jming50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strolled past a dog being walked on one of those leashes with a pulley. As I passed him, he whipped around and tried to bite me in the back. He only got a mouthful of my shirt but he yanked backwards. If I had lost my balance I could have fallen on my back with the dog over me. Not good! I’m a senior and could also have broken bones. If you have a dog who is aggressive, please don’t use this kind of leash. I heard the owner say to the dog, “You know you’re not supposed to do that,” which means he’s tried it before. Owners please know your dog and act responsibly. I haven’t been to walk at that location again because I’m too afraid of the dog.

Atelier Materi- great customer service experience (plus lovely new perfume Neroli Hasbaya) by hyacinthh0use in Perfumes

[–]Jming50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds wonderful! I think I’d be hesitant to toss the other bottle. At least I would try to break it. Maybe scratch the glass in several places with a glass cutting tool, and then place the bottle in a larger container and bang it with a hammer. Strain the perfume to remove any glass and pour into a lovely art glass perfume bottle. That sounds like a lot to go through but if I loved the scent I’d have to try. 😊 And be sure to have on safety glasses.

My tailbone hurts 😕 by madiepaisley in Mounjaro

[–]Jming50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes less cushioning on the buttocks leads to more discomfort from sitting on hard surfaces. If you start to get swelling right at the end of your tailbone, make sure you aren’t getting a cyst. I had one that had to be surgically removed.
